Dr Philippa Cannan

Dr Philippa Cannan is a highly qualified Clinical Psychologist who provides compassionate, evidence-based care to both adolescents and adults. As a Founding Director of a multidisciplinary health service, she is dedicated to delivering holistic mental health support. Dr Cannan has extensive experience working within public psychiatric settings, which has equipped her with the expertise to support individuals experiencing complex and major mental illnesses. Her therapeutic approach is tailored to each client, utilising a range of evidence-based modalities to foster resilience and improve overall well-being.

With a diverse clinical background, Dr Cannan specialises in treating major mental illnesses, including borderline personality disorder, schizophrenia, depression, anxiety, and pain disorders. She has a keen interest in youth mental health, working closely with adolescents experiencing emerging mental health conditions to minimise their impact on educational, social, and occupational functioning. Additionally, Dr Cannan provides specialised support in perinatal mental health, assisting women with perinatal depression and anxiety, attachment issues, pregnancy loss, and infertility, as well as managing mood changes associated with menopause and pelvic pain. Her expertise also extends to neuropsychology, where she conducts cognitive and capacity-based assessments and provides therapeutic support for individuals and families affected by acquired brain injury and dementia.

Dr Cannan completed her undergraduate studies in psychology before earning her Doctorate of Clinical Psychology. Committed to ongoing professional development, she also obtained a Graduate Diploma and a Master of Youth Mental Health from a prestigious Australian university. She is a Member of the Australian Psychological Society (MAPS) and serves as a branch board member for the organisation. As a Registered Supervisor with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), she actively mentors and supervises graduate and postgraduate Clinical Psychologists. Dr Cannan has also published research articles, presented at international conferences, and contributed to global health initiatives on behalf of the World Health Organisation.
