Dr Peter James Maguire

Dr Peter James Maguire is a highly dedicated and compassionate General Practitioner who provides comprehensive primary care to patients in Western Australia. Throughout his long and varied career, Dr Maguire has developed a deep clinical focus on supporting patients through various stages of life. His primary areas of clinical interest include chronic disease management, mental health, palliative care, and aged care. He is particularly passionate about helping older patients and their families navigate the transition from independent living to supported care, ensuring they receive holistic and empathetic support.

Dr Maguire completed his medical training at the University of Western Australia, graduating with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) in 1977. He subsequently obtained a Diploma from the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (DipRACOG) and achieved Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP). Throughout his career, Dr Maguire has been deeply committed to medical education and professional leadership. He has served as the Chair of the Western Australian Faculty of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) and has been a member of the College's Federal Council. Additionally, he has contributed his expertise to the Professional Services Review Panel.

Before transitioning to his current role in metropolitan Perth, Dr Maguire spent a significant portion of his career working in both metropolitan and rural settings, including delivering babies and working in emergency departments. His extensive work in regional Western Australia earned him prestigious recognition, including being named a joint winner of the Rural GP of the Year Award. Alongside his clinical practice, Dr Maguire has been heavily involved in training the next generation of medical professionals, holding teaching and coordinator positions with various GP training organisations and serving as a Senior Lecturer at a rural clinical school.
