Dr Patrick William McQuillan

Dr Patrick McQuillan is a Specialist Bariatric, Upper Gastrointestinal (GI), and General Surgeon practicing across the Hunter Region in Newcastle, NSW. He completed his medical degree (MBBS) with Honours alongside a Bachelor of Medical Science at the University of Tasmania in 2010. Following general surgical training in the Hunter New England Local Health District, he attained his Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in 2019.

He subsequently undertook extensive subspecialty fellowship training in high-volume upper GI referral centers, including the Royal Adelaide Hospital in South Australia, Christchurch Hospital in New Zealand, and the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle Upon Tyne, UK (one of Europe’s largest upper GI cancer centres). Dr McQuillan's clinical focus encompasses minimally invasive bariatric surgery, anti-reflux and hiatus hernia repairs, surgery for achalasia, complex gastric and oesophageal cancer resections, advanced therapeutic endoscopy (including EMR for Barrett's oesophagus), gallbladder surgery, and abdominal wall hernia repairs. He holds consultant appointments at John Hunter Hospital and Belmont Hospital, alongside private privileges at Lake Macquarie, Lingard, and Newcastle Private Hospitals.
