Dr Padmini Howpage

Dr Padmini Howpage is a highly respected Consultant Psychiatrist and Psycho-geriatrician who provides compassionate, patient-centred care. With extensive expertise in adult and old age psychiatry, she is dedicated to helping individuals navigate complex mental health challenges. Dr Howpage adopts a holistic and empathetic approach to therapy, working collaboratively with her patients to understand their unique experiences and tailor treatment plans that foster resilience and long-term well-being.

Her clinical interests span a wide range of mental health conditions, including depression, anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, and post-traumatic stress disorder. Dr Howpage also specialises in managing neurodevelopmental and neurocognitive conditions, such as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and dementia-related disorders. To support her patients, she utilises a diverse array of evidence-based therapeutic modalities, including cognitive behavioural therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, and mindfulness-based interventions. Additionally, she is experienced in advanced treatment options, such as transcranial magnetic stimulation and nasal ketamine therapy, ensuring comprehensive care for complex cases.

Dr Howpage completed her initial medical training at Ruhuna University in Sri Lanka, earning her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS). She later pursued further studies in sports medicine and research at Simon Fraser University in Canada before relocating to Australia, where she qualified to practise medicine in 1993. She became a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP) in 2003. Dr Howpage is an active member of the profession and is an Accredited Member of both the Faculty of Adult Psychiatry and the Faculty of Old Age Psychiatry.
