Dr Noni Lewis is a highly experienced, fellowship-trained ophthalmic surgeon based at Central Sydney Eye Surgeons, Royal North Shore Hospital, Chatswood Private Hospital, Focus Eye Laser Centre Kingsford, and Bondi Junction Private Hospital. She specialises in corneal and cataract surgery and has over 20 years of clinical experience in general ophthalmology, laser eye surgery, and refractive procedures.
Dr Lewis provides comprehensive ophthalmic care, focusing on maintaining and restoring eye health. She has expertise in corneal transplantation, corneal crosslinking for progressive keratoconus and corneal ectasias, and refractive cataract and laser eye surgery. She also treats ocular surface conditions, glaucoma, diabetic eye disease, posterior capsular opacity, and acute retinal tears using laser technology. Additionally, she administers injections for wet macular degeneration, vein occlusion, and diabetic macular oedema when required. Her scope of practice includes the removal of minor eyelid lesions.
Dr Lewis completed her medical degree at the University of New South Wales and earned a Master of Public Health (MPH) from the same institution. She later pursued a Master of Health Law (MHL) at the University of Sydney. She undertook specialist ophthalmology training at The Prince of Wales Hospital, Randwick, before completing two years of sub-specialist fellowship training at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London, focusing on cornea, external disease, cataract, and refractive surgery.
An active Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists (FRANZCO), Dr Lewis has contributed significantly to ophthalmic education, serving on the NSW State Branch Committee and as an advisor to the ophthalmology clinical indicators committee of the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards. She has also contributed to State-wide Ophthalmology Services and the Agency for Clinical Innovation Cornea and Cataract working groups.
Dr Lewis is a Clinical Lecturer at the University of Sydney Medical School and has been a peer reviewer for the American Academy of Ophthalmology Journal Ophthalmology. She is actively involved in clinical research, trials, and has authored multiple peer-reviewed publications. She provides continuing professional development (CPD) lectures and meetings for medical professionals and optometrists and has served on organising committees for ophthalmology conferences.
Dedicated to improving access to ophthalmic care, Dr Lewis has provided services to rural and outback communities in NSW, including Bourke and Griffith, through the Outback Eye Service at The Prince of Wales Hospital. She is the Head of the Corneal Unit at Royal North Shore Hospital, where she mentors junior medical officers and ophthalmology trainees, overseeing cataract and corneal surgery training. Her excellence in training was recognised by RANZCO in 2011/12.
