Dr Noel Hayman

Dr Noel Hayman is a highly respected Public Health Physician and General Practitioner who has dedicated his career to improving health outcomes, health policy, and life expectancy for Indigenous Australians. As a pioneering medical professional, he focuses on delivering culturally appropriate primary health care and raising public awareness about critical health disparities. His work is characterised by a strong commitment to preventative medicine, chronic disease management, and the development of robust public health strategies that address the social determinants of health.

With a diverse clinical background, Dr Hayman has a particular interest in the management of chronic conditions such as diabetes, as well as immunisation programmes and preventative health initiatives. He also utilises his foundational knowledge in microbiology and nutrition to address public health concerns, including food safety and nutritional health. Beyond direct patient care, Dr Hayman is deeply involved in medical education, actively mentoring and training the next generation of Indigenous Doctors, General Practice Registrars, and healthcare professionals to foster a more inclusive and capable workforce.

Dr Hayman completed his Bachelor of Applied Science, majoring in Food Technology, at the Queensland Agricultural College in 1979. He went on to study medicine, graduating with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from the University of Queensland in 1990, followed by a Master of Public Health from the same institution in 1997. In recognition of his outstanding contributions to medicine, he was awarded an honorary Doctor of Medicine by the University of Sydney in 2021. Dr Hayman is a Fellow of the Australasian Faculty of Public Health Medicine, a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, and a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners. He was also appointed a Member of the Order of Australia for his significant service to medicine and medical education.
