Dr Nirosha Jayawardena

Dr Nirosha Jayawardena is an approachable and dedicated Consultant Psychiatrist who provides compassionate, patient-centred mental health care. She specialises in supporting individuals experiencing a diverse range of psychological challenges, with a particular focus on anxiety, depression, and mood disorders. Dr Jayawardena is deeply passionate about patient empowerment, actively collaborating with her patients to help them define and achieve their personal and clinical recovery goals through supported decision-making.

In addition to treating mood and anxiety disorders, Dr Jayawardena has clinical expertise in managing complex trauma, personality disorders, and eating disorders. Recognising the barriers to accessing quality mental health care in remote areas, she also provides tele-psychiatry services to support patients living in regional and rural communities across Australia. Her holistic approach ensures that each individual receives personalised care tailored to their unique circumstances, whether in person or via telehealth.

Dr Jayawardena completed her comprehensive specialist psychiatric training at major health services and hospitals in Brisbane, culminating in her admission as a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists in 2017. She holds a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) and is also qualified as an Attorney-at-Law, having earned a law degree to advocate against domestic violence and protect the rights of vulnerable individuals. Alongside her clinical practice, she contributes to the education of future medical professionals as a Senior Lecturer at a prominent university and has authored children's storybooks to support community well-being.
