Dr Rawlin completed his Bachelor of Medicine at Newcastle University in the early 1980s, graduating as part of the university's inaugural medical school class. He went on to obtain a Master of Medical Science and has earned numerous postgraduate qualifications, including a Diploma of Practical Dermatology, a Diploma of Medical Hypnosis, and a Diploma of Family Planning. He is a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners, a Fellow of the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine, and holds a Fellowship of Advanced Rural General Practice. Additionally, he is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. Throughout his career, Dr Rawlin has held prominent leadership roles, including serving as Chair of the Victoria Faculty and the National Faculty of Specific Interests at the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners, and as Medical Director of the Royal Flying Doctor Service in Victoria. He has also served as an Adjunct Associate Professor in General Practice at the University of Sydney.
As an experienced General Practitioner, Dr Rawlin has developed a broad range of clinical interests to address the diverse needs of his patients. He has a strong focus on mental health, having served as Chair of the General Practice Mental Health Standards Collaborative, and is highly skilled in managing complex mental health conditions, suicide prevention, and perinatal mental health.
