Dr Miranda Sonntag

Dr Miranda Sonntag is a highly dedicated Psychiatrist specialising in the care of adolescents, young adults, and adults. With a compassionate and patient-centred approach, she focuses on supporting young people aged between 12 and 25 as they navigate critical developmental periods and dynamic life transitions. Dr Sonntag is particularly experienced in helping students manage the challenges of entering high school and navigating their final senior years, addressing issues such as concentration difficulties, depression, and anxiety to help them reach their full potential. She also facilitates the smooth transition of young people from the care of a Paediatrician to a Psychiatrist.

In her clinical practice, Dr Sonntag treats a broad spectrum of mental health conditions, including mood and anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), eating disorders, and stress-related conditions. She has a special interest in providing comprehensive attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) assessments and ongoing management for adolescents aged 12 to 18, helping them develop effective strategies for educational, professional, and personal settings. Additionally, she is skilled in addressing alcohol and other drug addictions, problem gambling, and oppositional defiant disorder. Her therapeutic approach is collaborative and family-focused, incorporating evidence-based interventions such as motivational interviewing and weekly psychotherapy, and she is highly experienced in working with gender-diverse individuals and families.

Dr Sonntag completed her medical training with First Class Honours, earning her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS). She is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP) and holds an Advanced Certificate in Addiction Psychiatry. Committed to maintaining the highest standards of clinical excellence, she is an accredited member of the Faculty of Addiction Psychiatry, a member of the Faculty of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, and a member of the Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder Network.
