Dr Michael Williamson

Dr Michael Williamson is a highly respected Consultant Psychiatrist and Psychotherapist who provides compassionate, patient-centred care in private practice. With a career spanning both the public and private mental health sectors, he focuses on helping individuals navigate complex psychological challenges. Dr Williamson is dedicated to delivering evidence-based treatments tailored to each patient's unique needs, fostering a supportive environment that promotes long-term recovery and mental well-being.

Throughout his career, Dr Williamson has developed deep expertise in the psychotherapy of severe Borderline Personality Disorder and developmental trauma-based psychological illnesses. He is also highly skilled in treating military and police Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), as well as various mood disorders and personality disorders. His clinical approach integrates psychiatric medical management with specialised psychotherapeutic techniques, ensuring a holistic path to healing for those experiencing profound psychological distress.

Dr Williamson obtained his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) and subsequently completed a Master of Medicine (M Med). He is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP). Demonstrating a strong commitment to the advancement of his field, he was a foundation member of the Australian and New Zealand Association of Psychotherapy, serving twice as its New South Wales President. His distinguished career also includes leadership roles as the Clinical Director for several regional mental health services, alongside academic appointments as a Senior Lecturer in Psychiatry at the University of Newcastle and a Clinical Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Western Sydney.
