Dr Megan Barnet

Dr Megan Barnet is a highly dedicated Medical Oncologist specialising in the treatment of gastrointestinal and lung cancers. With a strong clinical focus on immuno-oncology and genomic sequencing, she is committed to delivering personalised, cutting-edge care to her patients. Dr Barnet actively participates in multidisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive, coordinated treatment plans that address the unique needs of individuals facing complex cancer diagnoses.

In addition to her clinical practice, Dr Barnet is a prominent researcher and leader in the oncology field. She serves as the Clinical Lead for a national programme focused on exceptional responders, which investigates rare and unexpected positive responses to anti-cancer treatments through genomic sequencing and biobanking. Her research on the genetic factors influencing immunotherapy responses in non-small cell lung cancer has been widely published in peer-reviewed journals and presented at major international oncology conferences.

Dr Barnet completed her undergraduate degree in biology and economics at Duke University in North Carolina before returning to Australia, where she graduated with Honours in medicine from the University of Sydney in 2008. She completed her comprehensive general medical and oncology training at major tertiary referral hospitals in Sydney, and was awarded a PhD in immunology in 2021. Dr Barnet is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) and holds an academic appointment as a Conjoint Associate Professor. She also contributes her expertise to human research ethics committees, ensuring the highest standards of patient safety and clinical integrity.
