Dr Kristen Bechly

Dr Kristen Bechly is a Gastroenterologist with special interests in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and hepatology. She provides assessment and management for a broad range of gastrointestinal and liver conditions and has experience across general gastroenterology, hepatology, and complex digestive disorders.

Dr Bechly graduated from medicine at the University of Queensland in 1996 and completed her initial medical and gastroenterology training through the Royal Brisbane Hospital and other Queensland hospitals. She undertook advanced specialist training in New Zealand from 2003, including three years at Christchurch Hospital with a focus on inflammatory bowel disease, alongside training in motility disorders, general gastroenterology, and hepatology.

Her final year of clinical training was completed at the New Zealand Liver Transplant Unit in 2007, where she gained experience in advanced liver disease and transplant medicine. During this period, she was involved in research into autoimmune hepatitis and participated in clinical trials involving viral hepatitis and liver transplantation.

After returning to Australia in 2008, Dr Bechly established her gastroenterology practice at Waverley Endoscopy in Mount Waverley and Digestive Health in Dandenong. She also provides inpatient gastroenterology care when required, including admission and management at Cabrini Malvern.
