Dr Kim Hurst

Dr Kim Hurst is a highly dedicated Senior Psychologist who specialises in the assessment and treatment of eating disorders across paediatric, adolescent, and adult populations. Working within comprehensive psychiatric and mental health settings, she provides evidence-based clinical care to individuals and their families. Dr Hurst is deeply committed to delivering compassionate, patient-centred support, focusing on early intervention and tailored therapeutic strategies to foster long-term recovery.

Her clinical practice is centred on specialised therapies for eating disorders, including Maudsley Family-Based Treatment (FBT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy Enhanced (CBT-e), and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (CBT-AR). Dr Hurst has extensive experience working across diverse treatment environments, including psychiatric inpatient units, medical wards, and outpatient day programmes. In addition to her direct clinical work, she is passionate about preventative care, regularly delivering educational workshops on positive body image to school communities and guidance officers.

Dr Hurst completed her academic training with a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, a Graduate Diploma in Psychology, and a Bachelor of Social Science with Honours. She is a credentialed Family-Based Treatment Therapist and a recognised leader in her field, serving on the Executive Committee and as a past President of the Australian and New Zealand Academy for Eating Disorders (ANZAED). Additionally, she has contributed her expertise as a member of a state-wide eating disorders advisory group, helping to shape clinical policies and service delivery standards.
