Dr Katrina Tonga

Dr Katrina Tonga is a highly dedicated Respiratory and Sleep Medicine Physician who provides comprehensive, evidence-based care for patients experiencing a wide range of lung and sleep disorders. With a clinical approach centred on empathy and clear communication, she is committed to helping patients manage chronic conditions and improve their overall quality of life. Dr Tonga specialises in diagnosing and treating complex airway diseases, ensuring that each patient receives a personalised and supportive treatment pathway.

Her clinical interests span a broad spectrum of respiratory and sleep conditions, with a particular focus on severe asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and bronchiectasis. Dr Tonga is also highly experienced in managing respiratory infections, lung cancer, cystic fibrosis, and obstructive sleep apnoea. She is actively involved in clinical research, particularly in airway physiology and the early detection of lung disease, which allows her to integrate the latest medical advancements into her patient care.

Dr Tonga completed her medical degree at the University of Otago before undertaking specialist training in Respiratory and Sleep Medicine in Sydney. She was awarded a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) from the University of Sydney for her research into the mechanisms of asthma. Dr Tonga is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and serves as the President of the Thoracic Society of Australia and New Zealand (New South Wales and Australian Capital Territory Branch). In addition to her clinical work, she is an Associate Professor, contributing to medical education and research, and maintains active professional memberships with the American Thoracic Society and the European Respiratory Society.
