Dr Katherine Masselos

Dr Katherine Masselos is a highly regarded Ophthalmologist who specialises in cataract and glaucoma surgery. With a patient-centred approach, she is dedicated to providing comprehensive, high-quality eye care. Dr Masselos manages a wide range of acute and chronic ophthalmic conditions, with a particular focus on the diagnosis and medical and surgical management of glaucoma. Her clinical expertise extends to performing advanced cataract surgeries, including complex lens procedures and combined surgeries designed to reduce patients' reliance on daily eye drops.

Dr Masselos began her academic journey by completing a Bachelor of Optometry with Honours at the University of New South Wales, followed by a medical degree with Honours at the University of Sydney. She also holds a Master of Public Health. She completed her specialist ophthalmology training at a major tertiary hospital in Sydney, serving as the Professorial Senior Registrar in her final year. To further refine her skills, she undertook a prestigious sub-speciality glaucoma fellowship at a renowned eye hospital in the United Kingdom, where she gained extensive laser and glaucoma surgical experience. Dr Masselos is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists and an active member of the Australia and New Zealand Glaucoma Society.

In addition to her clinical practice, Dr Masselos is deeply committed to education, research, and community service. She serves as a Conjoint Senior Lecturer in surgery at a prominent Australian university and holds a Staff Specialist appointment at public teaching hospitals, where she teaches clinical and surgical skills to future Ophthalmologists. As the Chair of the Clinical Advisory Panel for a national support organisation, she actively advocates for patient education and early detection. Her research is published in international peer-reviewed journals, and she regularly presents her findings at local and international conferences. Furthermore, she has dedicated her time to providing essential eye care services to remote and regional communities.
