Dr. Juliana Puppi is a highly skilled paediatric gastroenterologist with a particular focus on liver diseases, clinical nutrition, and intestinal rehabilitation. She brings extensive experience in managing various gastrointestinal disorders in children, including inflammatory bowel disease, chronic diarrhoea, coeliac disease, allergic disorders, motility and functional disorders. Dr. Puppi is accredited by the Conjoint Committee for Recognition of Training in Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (CCRTGE) to perform endoscopic procedures such as gastroscopy and colonoscopy in children.
Dr. Puppi completed her training in paediatric gastroenterology in Brazil and furthered her expertise through clinical fellowships in paediatric hepatology at renowned institutions. She trained at Bicêtre Hospital in Paris, France, and at the Paediatric Liver Centre at King’s College Hospital in London, UK, which is Europe's largest paediatric liver transplant unit. She moved to Australia in 2014 and completed a clinical fellowship in paediatric gastroenterology at the Children’s Hospital at Westmead (CHW), where she continues to work today. She holds a fellowship with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians.
Currently, Dr. Puppi serves as a Staff Specialist in Gastroenterology and is the clinical lead of the Intestinal Rehabilitation Service at CHW. In addition to her clinical duties, she actively participates in the supervision and training of medical students and junior medical officers. She is a dedicated educator and frequently provides lectures and tutorials in gastroenterology to students, junior medical officers, nurses, and allied health professionals.
Dr. Puppi has a strong background in research, holding a Master’s Degree in Transplantation from Paris-Sud University and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Gene and Cell-based Therapy from the University of London. She has published research in peer-reviewed journals and is regularly involved in peer-reviewing articles submitted for publication.
Her special interests cover various aspects of paediatric gastroenterology and hepatology, with a strong emphasis on liver disease and liver transplantation, nutritional disorders, clinical nutrition, intestinal rehabilitation, gastrointestinal disorders, and endoscopic procedures in children.
