Professor Jonathan Clark

Professor Jonathan Clark is a highly experienced head and neck cancer and reconstructive surgeon whose clinical practice is dedicated to complex oncological surgery and restoration of function following cancer treatment. 

His surgical expertise encompasses both tumour removal and complex reconstruction, with particular interests in oral cancer, salivary gland tumours, facial nerve reconstruction, precision jaw reconstruction and transoral robotic surgery for throat cancer. He also has extensive expertise in microvascular head and neck reconstruction, including reconstruction following major cancer surgery.

His specialist procedures include head and neck tumour resection, oral cancer surgery, salivary gland surgery, microvascular free-flap reconstruction, facial reconstruction, facial nerve reconstruction, jaw reconstruction and transoral robotic surgery (TORS) for throat cancer.

He has particular expertise in digital planning for precision jaw reconstruction and dental rehabilitation, using technologies such as virtual surgical planning and 3D printing to support complex reconstructive procedures. 

Professor Clark was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in 2019 for his contribution to head and neck surgery. He has also been recognised as a Master Surgeon by the International Federation of Head and Neck Oncological Societies (IFHNOS) and as an Honorary Member of the Australian Society of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery. He was the founding and inaugural Chair of Head and Neck Cancer Australia, contributing to the development of patient education and support resources for people affected by head and neck cancer.

Professor Clark's clinical work integrates cancer surgery with reconstructive planning, recognising that successful treatment involves not only removing disease but also preserving or restoring important functions affected by head and neck surgery. His practice therefore brings together oncological surgery, microvascular reconstruction, facial nerve reconstruction and digital surgical planning within a multidisciplinary cancer-care environment. This combination is particularly relevant for patients requiring complex surgery involving the mouth, jaw, throat, face or salivary glands, where reconstruction can form an integral part of treatment and long-term recovery.
