Dr John McAulay

Dr John McAulay is a highly qualified Consultant Psychiatrist who provides comprehensive mental health care for older adolescents, adults, and older persons. With a reassuring and patient-centred approach, he focuses on delivering personalised care that addresses the unique needs of each individual. Dr McAulay is dedicated to balancing the use of pharmacological treatments with psychotherapeutic management, ensuring a holistic and well-rounded path to mental wellness.

Throughout his career, Dr McAulay has developed significant expertise in general adult psychiatry, managing conditions such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorders, psychosis, and personality disorders. He has a strong clinical interest in the assessment and treatment of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), particularly in adults and during the transition from adolescence into adulthood. Additionally, he is highly experienced in supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, autism spectrum disorders, chronic pain, and dementia. His practice also encompasses the provision of diagnostic assessments for the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), managing WorkCover cases of psychological injury, and preparing medicolegal and insurance reports.

Dr McAulay completed his medical education at the University of Queensland, graduating with a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) and a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in 2003. He undertook his specialist psychiatric training across Brisbane, the Bayside, and Queensland's coastal regions, gaining valuable experience in older persons' mental health, brain injury settings, and specialist disability psychiatry. He is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP) and holds an advanced Certificate of Adult Psychiatry.
