Dr John Grigg

Dr John Grigg is a highly distinguished Consultant Ophthalmologist who is dedicated to providing exceptional eye care for both adult and paediatric patients. With a profound commitment to preserving and restoring vision, he has established himself as a leading authority in the management of complex eye conditions. His clinical practice encompasses a broad range of ophthalmic services, with a particular focus on glaucoma, cataracts, and inherited eye diseases. Dr Grigg is widely recognised for his compassionate approach, ensuring that each patient receives personalised and reassuring care tailored to their unique visual needs.

In addition to his clinical work, Dr Grigg is a prominent academic and researcher who holds a prestigious position as Professor and Head of the Discipline of Ophthalmology. His research interests include genetic eye diseases, the electrophysiology of the visual system, and advanced surgical techniques. As a pioneer in laser cataract surgery, he has contributed significantly to the field through numerous peer-reviewed publications and textbook chapters, and he has co-chaired international consensus statements on paediatric glaucoma.

Dr Grigg completed his medical degree at the University of Queensland, followed by a Doctor of Medicine at the University of Sydney. He undertook his vocational ophthalmology training through a major ophthalmic training programme in Sydney, subsequently completing advanced subspecialty clinical fellowships in glaucoma, paediatric ophthalmology, and visual electrophysiology in both Australia and the United Kingdom. Dr Grigg is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists (FRANZCO) and a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS). He is also an active member of several national and international ophthalmic societies, reflecting his commitment to maintaining the highest standards of clinical excellence.
