Dr Jane Louise Cooper

Dr Jane Louise Cooper is a highly dedicated and compassionate General Practitioner and Rural Generalist based in Devonport, Tasmania. With a profound commitment to community-focused healthcare, she provides comprehensive medical care across all facets of general practice. Dr Cooper is particularly renowned for her passionate advocacy and support for youth health, striving to create accessible, comfortable, and supportive environments for young people seeking medical care.

In addition to her broad expertise in family medicine, Dr Cooper has developed specialised clinical interests in several key areas of healthcare. She is deeply committed to sexual health, HIV medicine, and transgender health and well-being, working closely with state services to deliver inclusive and respectful care. Her clinical focus also extends to obstetrics and gynaecology, enabling her to offer comprehensive reproductive and maternal healthcare to her patients.

Dr Cooper completed her Bachelor of Medical Science and Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) at the University of Tasmania. Committed to continuous professional development, she has earned several postgraduate qualifications, including a Diploma of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (DRANZCOG), a Graduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching for Health Professionals, and a Diploma in Clinical Redesign. She achieved her Fellowship in Rural General Practice (FARGP) in 2016, is recognised as a Rural Generalist (FRACGP-RG), and became a Fellow of the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (FACRRM) in 2021. Her outstanding contributions to the medical field were highlighted when she was awarded both the National and Tasmanian Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) General Practitioner of the Year in 2016.

Beyond her clinical practice, Dr Cooper is a passionate Medical Educator and supervisor, dedicating her time to training the next generation of General Practitioners and medical students. She has extensive experience as a supervisor for GP Registrars and has collaborated closely with academic institutions to facilitate clinical placements.
