Dr James Wickramasuriya

Dr James Wickramasuriya is a compassionate and dedicated Child, Adolescent and Family Psychiatrist based in Sydney, Australia. He possesses extensive experience in supporting young people and their families through a wide range of emotional and behavioural difficulties. Known for his reassuring and professional approach, Dr Wickramasuriya works closely with families and collaborates with other healthcare professionals to deliver comprehensive, patient-centred care.

In his clinical practice, Dr Wickramasuriya focuses on addressing behavioural challenges, complex anxiety, and mood disorders. He also has a particular interest in the management of complex childhood trauma. To support his patients, he utilises a diverse range of treatment modalities. These therapeutic approaches are informed by medical, family systems, attachment, behavioural, cognitive, psychodynamic, and trauma-informed theories. He works with family members both together and individually, ensuring a holistic and supportive environment for recovery.

Dr Wickramasuriya completed his medical degree at the University of Sydney, qualifying in 1999. Following his graduation, he undertook specialist training in psychiatry at a prominent hospital in London, as well as at several leading adolescent and paediatric mental health facilities in Sydney. He is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP) and holds a Certificate of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. Additionally, he is an active member of the Faculty of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry.
