About Dr James McAlister

Dr James Mcalister is a highly regarded Ophthalmologist and Eye Surgeon who specialises in corneal and ocular surface diseases, as well as cataract and refractive surgery. Dr Mcalister graduated with Honours from the University of London, obtaining his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) and Bachelor of Science (BSc). He completed his specialist ophthalmic training in London at Moorfields Eye Hospital, the largest eye hospital in the world. Following this, he undertook a prestigious fellowship in cornea, external eye disease, and refractive surgery at Moorfields Eye Hospital, followed by an additional fellowship at Southampton Hospital. He was also awarded a TFC Frost clinical research fellowship, which allowed him to conduct advanced research into gene therapy strategies for corneal disease at the Institute of Ophthalmology in London and the Schepens Eye Research Institute, affiliated with Harvard University. Dr Mcalister is a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists (FRCOphth) and a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists (FRANZCO).

In addition to his clinical practice, Dr Mcalister is an Associate Professor at Griffith University, where he contributes to the education and training of future medical professionals. He has also lectured on corneal health to optometry students and has published numerous research papers in peer-reviewed medical journals. His commitment to evidence-based medicine and clinical reassurance ensures that his patients benefit from the latest advancements in ophthalmic science and surgical technology.
