About Dr Gabriel James
Gabriel’s passion has always been supporting women through one of life’s most profound journeys, bringing a baby into the world in a safe, secure, and empowering environment. Equally, he’s deeply committed to offering clear, thoughtful, and thorough care pathways for gynaecological health. At the heart of his practice is a strong belief in listening to each woman’s needs and providing holistic, personalised care that respects her wishes and values.
Before entering medicine, Gabriel worked as a scientist in biotechnology and pharmaceutical development. He later completed his medical degree at the University of Sydney in 2010 on an academic scholarship. His early training in obstetrics and gynaecology began at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in 2012, followed by a diploma in the field on Sydney’s Northern Beaches. In 2013, he followed his heart (and the sunshine) to Queensland, where he began his specialist training.
Over the past decade, Gabriel has worked in some of Australia’s busiest tertiary maternity hospitals, including the Gold Coast University Hospital and the Mater Mothers’ Hospital. He has cared for many women with high-risk pregnancies, as well as those seeking a low-intervention, natural birthing experience. He’s passionate about offering
individualised care, whether complex or straightforward, with calm reassurance and clinical excellence.
Outside of work, Gabriel is a keen surfer and a hands-on dad who loves building things with his kids. He’s also spent seven summers volunteering his medical and construction skills in places such as Fiji, the Philippines, Tonga, Vietnam, Papua New Guinea, and remote Indigenous communities across Australia.
Warm, approachable, and calm in a crisis (according to his wife and four children!), Gabriel finds deep joy in walking alongside women and families during their most significant life moments.

I had my laparoscopic hysterectomy with Dr Gabriel and I couldn’t be more thankful for the compassion and expertise shown throughout the entire process. Although the surgery was slightly complex and it was undoubtedly difficult to undertake the laparoscopic route rather than an abdominal procedure, Dr Gabriel’s expertise made it possible! From pre-op reassurance to post-op follow-ups, everything was handled with so much care. My recovery has been smooth, and I always felt heard and supported. Truly grateful to have been in such capable hands. Highly recommend!
Dr James is an amazing doctor. He is very clear in his explanations, and kind in his approach. As an older first time mum, I was worried about how my pregnancies would go, but Dr James’ professional support made me feel confident. I strongly recommend Dr James.
Originally with a different OB, I had a chance encounter with Dr James over halfway through my pregnancy and was so impressed with his calm and caring nature that I switched over to him for the remainder of my pregnancy. I couldn’t recommend Dr James and his team more highly, including Chris and Kim at reception who were always warm, welcoming, and helpful. Dr James took the time to understand my idea of a dream birth and explained the pros and cons of what I was thinking. I trusted his guidance completely, and even when things didn’t go exactly the way I’d hoped during birth, my mind was instantly at ease when he entered the birthing suite. I’ll always be grateful for his role in the safe delivery of our beautiful daughter. If you want an OB that is not only a master of their craft but also an all round great human, look no further.

Dr Gabriel, was an amazing ob. We went back to him for our 2nd child. I felt so comfortable with him, I was met with so much compassion, respect and support. He listened to all my questions and concerns. Monitored me physically and emotionally/mentally. During delivery he was so understanding, calm, patient and listened to me and my body. I highly recommend him. Such a beautiful person.
Dr James and his team provided excellent care and service for me and my husband for the birth of our daughter, we never felt rushed and always felt like welcome and heard.
I would highly recommend Dr James. He explained everything very clearly to my husband and I. His bedside manner made me feel very comfortable during consultations. He was also very professional and took every care to ensure I was well informed throughout the process. His receptionist is also very helpful and responsive.
