Dr Fred Betros

Dr Frederick Betros is a General Surgeon with particular interests in laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery and the multidisciplinary management of complex and recurrent hernia disease. He has worked as a surgeon in Western Sydney and the Hawkesbury District since 2006.

His practice encompasses gastroscopy, colonoscopy, cholecystectomy (gallbladder removal) and hernia repair, as well as the surgical management of gastrointestinal cancers, including bowel and gastric cancer. Dr Betros contributes to regional multidisciplinary teams for upper and lower gastrointestinal cancers. His professional interests also extend to laparoscopic hernia surgery, complex abdominal wall reconstruction and surgical education techniques.

Alongside his clinical practice, Dr Betros is involved in the formal training of surgical trainees through the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. His contribution to surgical education was recognised in 2013, when he became the inaugural recipient of the General Surgeons Australia Excellence in Surgical Teaching Award for NSW-ACT.

Dr Betros also holds a senior leadership role as Head of a Department of Surgery and serves as a Councillor for AMA NSW.
