Dr Dominic Canale

Dr Dominic Canale is a Consultant Psychiatrist based in Melbourne with a subspecialty interest in psychodynamic psychotherapy. His work focuses on providing in-depth, psychotherapy-based treatment for individuals experiencing a range of mental health difficulties, with an emphasis on understanding the psychological and emotional factors that influence wellbeing.

Dr Canale graduated from Monash University with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (Honours). Early in his medical career he developed a strong interest in psychotherapies, which shaped his subsequent training and clinical focus. He completed the majority of his specialist psychiatry training at Alfred Health in Melbourne and was awarded a Master of Psychiatry from the University of Melbourne.

During his training he held the inaugural role of Psychotherapy Advanced Trainee at Alfred Health, gaining extensive experience in psychodynamic approaches and psychotherapy-based treatment. He subsequently achieved Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP), formally recognising his specialist qualification in psychiatry.

Dr Canale now works full-time in private practice at the Fitzroy Terrace Clinic in Melbourne. He continues to develop his expertise through ongoing training with the Melbourne Association of Psychodynamic Psychiatry and maintains regular professional supervision with a senior colleague, a standard practice among psychodynamic practitioners to ensure reflective, high-quality clinical care.
