A/Prof Devang Desai

Dr Devang Desai is a Consultant Urologist and Director of Toowoomba Specialists, with subspecialty interests in reconstructive urology, minimally invasive uro-oncology and robotic surgery.

After completing his specialist urological training in Australia, Dr Desai undertook advanced fellowship training in minimally invasive urology, with a particular emphasis on robotic surgery. He subsequently completed a GURS and AUA-approved fellowship in reconstructive urology, developing expertise in the management of complex urethral and lower urinary tract reconstruction.

Based in Toowoomba, Queensland, Dr Desai maintains a diverse urological practice encompassing reconstructive urology, uro-oncology, robotic surgery and endourological management of stone disease. He is passionate about providing advanced subspecialist urological care in regional Australia and currently serves a geographically dispersed population across an area exceeding 300,000 square kilometres.

Dr Desai has completed a Master’s degree in Urology and has a strong academic interest in research, education and surgical innovation. He holds Associate Professor appointments at the University of Queensland, University of Southern Queensland and Griffith University and is actively involved in undergraduate and postgraduate surgical education. He is also a reviewer for several urological journals and regularly contributes to national and international scientific meetings.

He is currently undertaking a PhD at the University of Antwerp, Belgium, investigating inflammatory urethral stricture disease. His clinical and research interests include complex urethral reconstruction and the development of novel reconstructive techniques. He developed the “DESAI” technique for complex penile urethral stricture disease and has published his experience with this innovative approach.

Dr Desai is also the founder and developer of UROAI, an educational platform designed to support urology education and training. His work combines specialist clinical practice, research, education and surgical innovation, with a particular commitment to advancing urological care in regional Australia.
