About Dr Denby Steele

Dr. Denby Steele is a highly respected Urological Surgeon based in Adelaide, with over three decades of experience investigating and treating diseases of the male genitourinary and female urinary tracts. He provides comprehensive care for a wide range of urological conditions, combining surgical precision with a patient-centred approach.

Dr. Steele graduated in medicine from Adelaide University in 1982 and completed his surgical training across all major teaching hospitals in Adelaide, attaining Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) in Urology in 1991. Following this, he completed advanced training in urology and renal transplantation as a Senior Registrar at Guy’s Hospital, London.

Since returning to Australia in 1993, Dr. Steele has been in private and public practice, consulting at Ward Street Urology in North Adelaide and operating at Calvary North Adelaide Hospital. He also provides urological services to the Barossa Valley, consulting and operating at Angaston Hospital on a fortnightly basis.

He is the Head of the Urology Unit and Director of Endourology and Stone Surgery at the Royal Adelaide Hospital, where he also serves as a Senior Visiting Specialist. His special interests include:

  • Minimally invasive treatment of prostate cancer, including low-dose (LDR) and high-dose rate (HDR) brachytherapy
  • Laser kidney stone surgery, including ureteroscopic and percutaneous (PCNL) approaches
  • Urological oncology (prostate, bladder, and renal cancers)
  • Erectile dysfunction and penile implant surgery
  • Vasectomy and microscopic vasectomy reversal

Dr. Steele has held numerous leadership and teaching roles throughout his career. He served as an examiner in Urology for the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons for the maximum nine-year term and chaired the South Australia and Northern Territory branch of the Urological Society of Australia and New Zealand. He remains actively involved in training urology interns and advanced surgical trainees, as well as medical student education at the Royal Adelaide and Calvary North Adelaide Hospitals.

A Fellow of the Australian Medical Association, Dr. Steele is also a member of several professional bodies, including the International Society of Urology, Endourology Society, American Brachytherapy Association, and the Australasian Brachytherapy Group.
