Dr Deepali Poels

Dr Deepali Poels is a Sydney-based, FRACS-accredited breast and general surgeon committed to
delivering personalised, high-quality breast care. As a full member of BreastSurgANZ, she provides expert, compassionate treatment for benign and malignant breast conditions. Deepali understands that concerns about breast health can be overwhelming; she prioritises careful listening and thoughtful
guidance so each patient feels truly heard, informed, and supported throughout
their journey 

Education and Training 

Dr Poels completed her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) in India, followed by
Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons (MRCS Ed) in the UK in 2007, a Master of Surgery (MS) from The University of Sydney in 2012, and Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in General Surgery in 2020. 

She completed prestigious subspecialty breast surgery fellowships at Chris O’Brien Lifehouse
(Sydney), Westmead Hospital, and Eastern Health (Melbourne). Currently, Dr Poels serves as a Staff Specialist in Acute Surgery and Trauma Care at Liverpool Hospital, where she manages complex emergency cases alongside her breast surgery practice. In this role, she actively contributes to training the next generation of surgeons by supervising surgical registrars and trainees,
offering hands-on guidance, mentorship, and structured feedback to develop
their clinical skills, decision-making, and professional growth in high-acuity
acute and trauma settings. 

She contributes to research with notable publications, including surgeon-performed vacuum-assisted
breast biopsy for benign and B3 lesions (World J Surg, 2025) and indocyanine
green fluorescence-guided axillary procedures (ANZ J Surg, 2025). 

Dr Poels has a keen interest in the surgical and multidisciplinary management of benign and
malignant breast disease, ensuring highest quality evidence-based practice, incorporating
advanced oncoplastic techniques to optimise both oncological outcomes and
aesthetic results.
