Dr Deanne Soares is a urologist based in Melbourne, Australia, with a clinical focus on robotic urological cancer surgery. She specialises in the surgical management of prostate, kidney, bladder, and upper urinary tract cancers using robotic techniques. Her practice also includes the assessment and treatment of elevated prostate-specific antigen (PSA), haematuria, kidney stones, benign prostate conditions, and other general urological concerns. In addition to robotic cancer surgery, she performs procedures including transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP), UroLift, laser lithotripsy, robotic pyeloplasty, and ureteric re-implantation.
Dr Soares completed her medical degree at the University of Notre Dame Australia and subsequently obtained a Master of Surgery from the University of Sydney and a Master of Health Leadership and Management from the University of Wollongong. She undertook specialist urology training through the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and the Urological Society of Australia and New Zealand SET programme, completing rotations at Frankston Hospital, Monash Health, St Vincent's Hospital Melbourne, Launceston General Hospital, and University Hospital Geelong. Following the completion of her Fellowship in Urology in 2021, she undertook a fellowship in robotic urologic cancer surgery at Stepping Hill Hospital, Stockport NHS Foundation Trust in England between 2022 and 2023, where she gained further experience in robotic surgery for prostate, kidney, and bladder cancers.
Alongside her clinical work, Dr Soares has contributed to research in urology and surgical medicine, publishing peer-reviewed work and presenting at national and international conferences, including meetings of the Urological Society of Australia and New Zealand, the European Association of Urology, and the Urological Association of Asia. She was awarded the Keith Kirkland Award at the Urological Society of Australia and New Zealand Annual Scientific Meeting in 2019 and received second prize for Best Registrar Presentation at the USANZ Victoria Meeting in 2018.
Dr Soares has held a number of leadership positions throughout her training and consultant career, including Chair of the Urology Trainee Forum, National Trainee Representative on the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons Board of Urology, and Director of Communications at the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons Trainee Association. She currently serves on the USANZ Diversity and Inclusion Committee and is a member of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons Women in Surgery group. She also mentors urology trainees.
Dr Soares consults in East Melbourne, Richmond, Melbourne, Coburg, and Mornington. She consults and operates at St Vincent's Hospital Melbourne, Epworth Freemasons, Epworth Richmond, St Vincent's Private Hospital Melbourne, John Fawkner Private Hospital, and the Australian Prostate Centre.
