Dr David Carey is an Endocrinologist in Brisbane whose clinical work covers obesity, insulin resistance, diabetes, PCOS, osteoporosis and other disorders of hormones and metabolism. His broader endocrine practice also includes thyroid disease, bone and calcium disorders, male and female hormonal conditions, menopause, pituitary and adrenal disorders. He has been involved in clinical research and treatment in several of these areas since 1990 and has authored national and international publications.
He graduated in both Science and Medicine from the University of New South Wales, receiving the University Medal in Medicine, before undertaking further postgraduate study and research through UNSW. After moving to Brisbane in 1996, Dr Carey worked as a Senior Lecturer and later Acting Director of the Department of Diabetes and Endocrinology at Princess Alexandra Hospital. He subsequently moved to the Wesley Hospital and was appointed Associate Professor at the University of Queensland.
In 2006, he established the Brisbane Metabolic Institute, with a focus on metabolic syndrome, diabetes, obesity and osteoporosis. Research into weight-loss treatments and diabetes remains an important part of his professional work, together with teaching in obesity, diabetes and metabolic syndrome.
