Dr Christopher Walsh

Dr Christopher Walsh is a highly qualified Psychiatrist and Addiction Medicine Specialist who provides compassionate, patient-centred care. With a broad clinical background spanning diverse settings, including community mental health services and correctional facilities, he is dedicated to helping individuals navigate complex psychological challenges. Dr Walsh focuses on supporting adults recovering from psychological trauma, as well as neurodivergent individuals, particularly those with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). His holistic approach aims to address the root causes of suffering, recognising that mental health is deeply interconnected with a patient's relationships, family dynamics, and broader social environment.

In his clinical practice, Dr Walsh integrates a wide range of evidence-based psychotherapies to tailor treatment to each individual's unique needs. His therapeutic toolkit includes Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Gestalt therapy, and Self Psychology. As a pioneer in the integration of mindfulness into clinical settings in Australia, he incorporates mindfulness-based therapies to help patients cultivate self-awareness and resilience. Dr Walsh has also been a key figure in family constellation work, developing a unique therapeutic approach known as Mindful Representations, which emphasises mindful presence and a grounded, respectful exploration of family systems.

Dr Walsh completed his medical training and obtained his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS), qualifying as a Medical Doctor in 1983. He went on to specialise in mental health, earning a Diploma in Psychological Medicine (DPM) and commencing his work in psychiatry in 1985. Demonstrating his expertise in the treatment of substance use and dependency, he is a Fellow of the Australasian Chapter of Addiction Medicine (FAChAM). Committed to advancing the field of mental health, Dr Walsh has contributed to medical education by teaching medical students at major universities, including the University of Melbourne and Monash University, and has been involved in clinical research exploring innovative therapeutic treatments.
