Dr. Ata Doost

Dr Ata Doost is an Interventional and Structural Cardiologist with advanced training in Australia and the United Kingdom and extensive experience in both complex coronary intervention and structural heart procedures. He currently practises across Sydney and Canberra, including Macquarie Heart / MQ Health, Cardiac Care Centre in Sydney, and Canberra Cardiac Care. 

Dr Doost’s practice encompasses coronary artery disease, angina, hypertension, valvular heart disease, heart failure and general rhythm disorders, alongside advanced interventional cardiology. His procedural expertise includes coronary angiography and PCI, trans-radial cardiac catheterisation, IVUS and OCT intracoronary imaging, FFR coronary physiology, rotational atherectomy, intravascular lithotripsy, TAVI, MitraClip and transcatheter mitral and tricuspid valve repair, ASD and PFO closure, left atrial appendage closure and paravalvular leak closure. 

Dr Doost has performed thousands of diagnostic and interventional cardiac catheterisations and has substantial experience with percutaneous structural heart procedures. His work is particularly focused on complex coronary disease, severe coronary calcification and catheter-based treatment of valvular and structural heart disorders. He has a particular interest in intracoronary imaging and physiology, using techniques such as IVUS, OCT and FFR to guide coronary intervention, as well as advanced calcium-modification approaches including rotational atherectomy and intravascular lithotripsy.

Alongside clinical practice, Dr Doost has research interests in multimodality cardiac imaging, coronary calcification, intracoronary imaging, coronary physiology and coronary calcium-modification techniques. His research has also explored the potential benefits of radial-artery access for coronary intervention. He completed an MPhil at the Australian National University Medical School, with research involving cardiovascular imaging and micro-CT applications.

Dr Doost combines general cardiology with highly specialised catheter-based treatment, allowing him to care for patients from initial cardiovascular assessment through to complex coronary and structural intervention.
