Dr Alexandra Mowat

Dr Alexandra Mowat is a Consultant Urogynaecologist specialising in the diagnosis and treatment of pelvic floor disorders, urinary incontinence, prolapse, bladder conditions, and associated bowel dysfunction. She has expertise in managing complex women’s health conditions through both surgical and non-surgical approaches.

Following her fellowship training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Dr Mowat completed a further three-year fellowship in Urogynaecology, developing advanced skills in pelvic floor medicine. She has also undertaken additional training with colorectal surgeons to enhance her understanding and management of complex pelvic floor problems involving bowel symptoms such as constipation, obstructed defecation, and faecal leakage.

Her clinical expertise includes laparoscopic and vaginal surgery for pelvic organ prolapse and urinary incontinence, as well as the assessment and treatment of bladder conditions including painful bladder syndrome and recurrent urinary tract infections. She also manages bowel dysfunction related to pelvic floor disorders, including constipation and bowel incontinence.

Dr Mowat is widely published in peer-reviewed journals and maintains an active research interest in improving surgical techniques and materials used in the management of vaginal prolapse and urinary incontinence. Her work reflects a commitment to advancing outcomes and quality of care for women with complex pelvic floor conditions.

She has been elected Chair of the Urogynaecological Society of Australasia and is recognised as an advocate for women’s health, as well as a leader and educator within her specialty.
