Mr Ahmad Aly

Clinical Associate Professor Ahmad Aly is a highly regarded General Surgeon and Specialist Upper Gastrointestinal Surgeon based in Melbourne. He currently serves as the Head of Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery at The Austin Hospital and maintains a prominent private practice operating at Warringal Private Hospital.

He completed his general surgical training at the Austin Hospital in Melbourne receiveing his FRACS in 2001. Subsequently he completed advanced subspecialist fellowship training in Adelaide and the United Kingdom, acquiring comprehensive expertise across the full spectrum of upper gastrointestinal surgery prior to returning to Melbourne as a consultant surgeon in 2005. In his clinical practice, he provides an enthusiastic and dedicated service, offering advanced laparoscopic solutions for hernias, gallbladder conditions, reflux disease and other benign upper gastrointestinal conditions. Additonally he is expert in the management and surgery of oesophageal and gastric cancer. He is a highly experienced weight loss surgeon who personally developed the dedicated multidisciplinary team at Darebin Weight Loss Surgery, and has performed over 3,000 bariatric procedures and over 5,000 surgeries across general and specialist upper gastrointestinal surgery.

Beyond his time in the operating theatre, Clinical Associate Professor Aly is deeply committed to academic research and surgical education and has held prominent national governance roles, including board memberships with the Australian and New Zealand Gastric and Oesophageal Surgery Association (ANZGOSA) and the Australian and New Zealand Metabolic and Obesity Surgery Society (ANZNMOSS) for which he served as President. Currently he is the President of the Aisa Pacific Chapter of IFSO (international Federation for Surgery of Obesity).
