I was diagnosed with esophageal cancer at Raigmore Hospital Inverness in October 2007 at the age of 53 and was referred to Dr Appou Tamijmarane for Ivor Lewis esophagogastrectomy surgery to remove the cancer. His surgical expertise, not only saved my life but has allowed me to have a fantastic quality of life. Dr Appou is an excellent communicator. He told me what the surgery involved, the risks and possible outcomes and he genuinely seemed to care. He frequently visited me over the 12 days I was in hospital and always took time to answer any questions I had. His advice was positive but realistic. My recovery was steady. I began to enjoy food again and eat normally, although smaller portions. I was back skiing 2 months after surgery and continue to enjoy skiing and my other hobbies of cycling, walking and gardening. I returned to work as a teacher in 2008 until I retired in 2019 aged 65. Any medical issues I have had following surgery, Dr Appou has been there to treat and advise me, either personally or via my GP’s. As a result of his skilled surgery, Dr Appou has given me 17 plus years of quality life I never dreamed I would have. Best of all, 17 years with my family during which I have appreciated every day and I am eternally grateful to Dr Appou for making this possible.
I cannot express enough gratitude for the exceptional care and expertise of Dr Appou, Upper GI Surgeon. His dedication and professionalism were truly life-changing for me. Before meeting him, I struggled for years without a firm diagnosis, feeling lost in a cycle of uncertainty and discomfort. However, through his skillful guidance, I underwent crucial procedures—including Gastroscopy, gallbladder removal, Nissen fundoplication, and revision surgery. The past seven years have been incredibly tough, but thanks to Dr Appou’s commitment to patient care, I finally received the treatment I desperately needed. His expertise not only restored my health but also gave me some of my life back that I could return to work. Today, I can move forward with confidence and comfort, and I will forever be grateful for his support and surgical excellence.
I underwent The Whipple’s procedure, also known as Pancreaticoduodenectomy, which was a complex surgical procedure performed by Dr Appou at Raigmore Hospital, Inverness, Scotland in 2023. Mr Tamijmarane truly cares about his patients. He is an excellent communicator, he explained my condition and the surgical procedure in detail, using terms I could understand. I felt confident and reassured by his explanations. He took a great deal of time to listen to my concerns and answer all my questions and he made sure I understood everything. I felt like a priority throughout the entire process. He is clearly an incredibly skilled and knowledgeable Surgeon, I was so impressed with his professionalism and bedside manner. He made what could have been a stressful experience feel reassuring and pleasant, I felt I was in excellent care throughout my procedure. I am extremely happy with the results of my surgery and could not recommend him more highly.
