He had been appointed as associate Medical Director–Caldicott Guardian for the Bart's and the London NHS Trust and until recently for over a decade Clinical Academic Director of Cutaneous Medicine and Surgery (Dermatology, Plastic Surgery including Trauma and Tissue viability) at Bart's Health NHS Trust (incorporating Bart's, Royal London, London Chest, Whipps Cross & Newham University Hospitals) and Queen Mary's University London Medical School and Dentistry.
His interest includes inflammatory dermatoses and cutaneous oncology. He set up and led a weekly tertiary multidisciplinary psoriasis and monthly Dermatology- Rheumatology combined clinic. Prof Cerio is also a skin cancer specialist and supports weekly multidisciplinary local and specialist skin tumour meetings. He also continues to teach undergraduates and provide post-graduate teaching on dermatological and dermatopathological topics locally, regionally, nationally and internationally.

Qualifications
He contributes to dermatology and dermatopathology teaching at all levels including undergraduates, DipDerm and MSc. Currently he is MBBS, DipClinDerm, DipRCPath and ICDermPath examiner as well as an intercalated BSc in pathology tutor and supervised several research projects. Currently, he is supervising both an MD thesis in Dermatology especially in psoriasis and a PhD in skin pathology for the QM University of London.
His contributions to medical literature include over 180 peer-reviewed publications, 5 books and 12 chapters including 22nd, 23rd and 24th editions of Hutchinson's Clinical Methods, "Skin Histopathology" in the 6th and 7th and latest editions of the "ROOK" book. He has made major contributions to the latest published WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION classification text on SKIN TUMORS. He is currently on the editorial board of the American Journal of Dermatopathology.
For over 25 years, he has continued to contribute to numerous national and international dermatology and dermatopathology meetings. To date Professor Cerio has been principle investigator for several phase III trials including antihistamines tablets and syrup, topical anaesthetics, topical non melanoma anti cancer therapies, oral antifungals, cytokines for psoriasis and more recently field directed topical therapy for actinic keratoses.
He is examiner for the University of London, the Royal College of Pathologists and International Committee of Dermatopathology and UEMS. He was founder and for 5 years President of the European Society for Dermatopathology. In 2010-11, he was elected President for the section of Dermatology at The Royal Society of Medicine.
