Mr Shanbhag gained his primary medical qualifications at Bombay University, and later came to the UK to undertake his basic and specialist training, with the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh.He trained on the All Wales Training programme in Trauma and Orthopaedics and obtained the FRCS in Trauma and Orthopaedics.

He has completed two Fellowships in Hand and Wrist Surgery including a prestigious Advanced Training Fellowship at the Queens Medical Centre Nottingham.

Once qualified, he was appointed Consultant at the Nevill Hall Hospital in 2013.

He is now the Clinical Lead for Hand Surgery for Anuerin Bevan University Health Board.

He now exclusively treats Hand and Wrist problems in his NHS and Private practice at ST Joseoh's Hospital Newport, Wales and Nuffield Hereford Hospital,England.
