Mr Brian Fish graduated from Birmingham University Medical school. Having then passed his initial Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons exams he took a year to travel the world before returning to complete his surgical studies and become a Fellow of the College. He decided to specialise in Ear, Nose and Throat Surgery and undertook his registrar training in Liverpool working primarily at the three main teaching hospitals there, the Royal Liverpool Hospital, the renowned head and neck centre at Aintree and at Alder Hay Children' Hospital. He then undertook a Fellowship for a year at the Royal Brisbane  and Womens' and Childrens' Hospital in Brisbane Australia.
Having completed his fellowship he secured a Consultant appointment at Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge where he has now worked for 17 years. He set up and continues to run the Voice clinic with the speech therapy team and has been a core member of the thyroid and head and neck cancer multidisciplinary teams throughout this time. During this time the ENT department has taken over all of the thyroid and parathyroid surgery in the hospital and Mr Fish is a high volume surgeon who regularly performs in excess of 100 of each procedure per year.
Mr Fish was clinical director of the ENT department for 4 years and then clinical director for the business unit compromising ENT, Plastic and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Dermatology for a further 4 years. He is also an advisor to the Parliamentary Ombudsman for Health.
His current research interests are optimum imaging in parathyroid surgery and the genetics of thyroid cancer.
He is married with three children and a menagerie of pets to keep him busy at home. Away from work he enjoys skiing, tennis, windsurfing, mountain-biking, scuba-diving and foreign travel, preferably in combination and all with more enthusiasm than skill.
