Explanation

Mr Kolli took over my care at the beginning of 2020 and, after an unavoidable delay due to the pandemic, I had cataract surgery in my right eye which was assessed to be high risk due to corneal damage, previous surgery for glaucoma and frequent episodes of uveitis. I am delighted to say that I now have 20/20 vision (without glasses) in that eye. He is continuing to see me for my left corneal problem and hopes to perform a corneal transplant on that eye in due course. Mr Kolli has an excellent ‘bedside manner’ - he is friendly, kind, approachable and reassuring. I have also appreciated very much the time he takes to explain procedures and answer questions. I am so grateful to him for the outstanding care he has given me and I feel confident that I am in very good hands with him.

I went to see Mr Kolli after some deterioration in my vision over a period of several years. As a surgeon myself good vision is essential for me and therefore I was very worried about the prospect of losing my eye sight. Mr Kolli was excellent to deal with. He was very professional in his manner, quickly diagnosed my keratoconus, explained to me the nature of the condition, the treatment options available and reassured me that I would not be losing my vision. I cannot recommend him enough.

Mr Kolli has undoubtedly saved my eyesight after an invasive infection caused a corneal ulcer which was progressing quickly. I cannot thank or commend him enough, not only for his expertise and professionalism, but also for the compassion and kindness he consistently has shown me through the past year and a half. He embodies the professionalism and dedication that shines through our NHS. Mr Kolli has consistently gone above and beyond in my treatment, fitting me into his already busy clinic and answering my questions in a patient, honest and informative way. Mr Kolli is a credit to his specialism and the Hospital, and I can honestly say that I feel very lucky to have had him treat me. He made a difficult situation feel in control and managed, something which myself and my family desperately needed at the time.

Mr Kolli was very professional with the ability to make you feel at ease. The procedure was explained in detail & any questions I had were answered thoroughly. During the procedure Mr Kolli took time to ask me if I was alright before carrying on which was very reassuring. The procedure I had was to remove a buildup of scar tissue on a cataract lens, pushing it out of position. This was giving me misty double vision and headaches. I am completely satisfied with the outcome of the procedure I received from Mr Kolli and his team. Thank you to all concerned.

Explanation

I was referred to Mr Kolli, for further treatment for my right eye as it was determined that I was in need of corneal treatment following removal of a thick cataract that had rendered me completely blind in that eye prior to cataract removal. Mr Kolli recommended the following treatments each achieving a step change improvement in Vision. Laser treatment Injection into the back of the eye Finally a corneal graft. All of these treatments were explained thoroughly, including possible benefits and risks. I am pleased to report that my right eye now gives me vision far better than I ever expected especially as 15 years prior to this I had a detached retina. My Left eye had a minor cataract however due to the In-balance between the two eyes I was experiencing double vision. Mr Kolli referred me to an ophthalmologist to review whether glasses or Contact lenses would be able to correct this. The opthalmolagist discussed this with me and I agreed that he should recommend a cataract operation on my left eye would be the best way forward. Again the risks and potential benefits were explained to me before referral. Within 2 weeks Mr Kolli arranged for me to have said cataract operation and I am now informed that I have 20:20 vision in my left eye. After just under two weeks most of the double vision has gone and still improving daily. I am so pleased with the care that I have received and the resulting vision, especially as all of my life I have been very short sighted. I have personally thanked Mr Kolli for his care and persistence in the treatment that I have been given, and am extremely happy to give such a positive review. I know I was quite nervous about having such extensive treatment on my eyes, however at no time did I feel any pain during or after my operations. I am more than happy to re-assure future patients of the excellent care that they will receive with Mr Kolli and his team.

I first met Mr Kolli in 2015. In all my outpatient’s appointments he has been unfailingly kind and thoughtful. He listens carefully to what I say, and is gentle when examining my eyes. He carefully considers his findings before taking any action needed. Therefore he has been able to avert problems and control them, for which I am very grateful.

Explanation

Mr Kolli saved my sight and therefore saved my life! My consultant at the QE Birmingham recommended Mr Kolli; I will be forever grateful. On my first appointment, Mr Kolli put me on a strict regime of a large number of eyedrops which had to be administered regularly throughout the day to prepare my eyes for surgery, plus oral medication and Omega Eye capsules. Morning and evening I had to use an Eye Bag due to chronic Meibomian Gland Dysfunction. The preparation for cataract surgery was a long haul, I had multiple and extremely serious problems: corneal scarring, cataracts, Meibomian gland dysfunction, Aqueous tear deficiency, ulcers on my eye… All of these issues had to be addressed before cataract surgery. When I became downhearted Mr Kolli reassured me he would operate as soon as possible but he would not operate on my eyes until they were in the optimum condition required for surgery. I had to be patient in order to have my eyesight back. He explained that there was a real risk of corneal melting when operations are undertaken when the eyes are not in this optimum state. I was unable to drive, not able to see peoples’ faces, I was so embarrassed that I would look at the look ground all the time so that I could express surprise when I was eventually within two foot of their face. I couldn’t read the overhead signs in the aisles in the supermarket. I do voluntary work in a school: I couldn’t see the children’s faces, read the instructions on the whiteboard, I had great difficulty reading; I had to use a magnifying glass. I had to sit virtually on top of the television. Those times are in the past but I will never forget the overwhelming fear that I would lose my sight. After treatment and cataract surgery, I can drive in the light and in the dark. My vision is so good I am legal to drive without glasses. I still go to six monthly reviews, Meibomian Gland Dysfunction does not go away it has to be managed. I follow Mr Kolli’s advice to the letter and my dry eyes are under control, this will have be managed for the rest of my life. Mr Kolli’s remarkable, outstanding skills, knowledge, wealth of experience, empathy and working alongside a great team, pulled me through that hellhole and out the other side for which I am eternally grateful. I felt I have been treated with the greatest care and sensitivity that was needed to undergo surgery, this was my first time ever having surgery of any kind and was very apprehensive but I was put at ease straight away and the surgery was very successful. Many thanks to Mr Kolli and his team.

Overall I was very happy with the care I received during my operation. Mr Kolli explained the procedure fully to me and what would happen at every stage. It was carried out in a calm environment so that I had confidence in the final result. Afterwards it was wondeful to be able to see through my eye unaided and read things I could not see before.
