The diagnosis of an approximate 8cm size of proximal humerus cartilaginous malignant tumour was scary in itself with an ambiguity in the histology grade due to the size. NHS diagnosis was to perform a prosthetic arm surgery which was life changing. At the age of 42 i was shattered and couldn’t accept this option, which is when i opted to for having opinion privately from surgeons across the country and also from USA & Germany. Mr Pollock was a part of RNOH Stanmore MDT team who after careful review of MRI images & biopsy suggested to undergo curettage option which would save my arm with minimal damage. I visited Mr Pollock privately who was very confident of the above suggested option and only if the whole tumour was anything above grade 1, i would then be converted to have the prosthetic surgery later which he didn’t think would be needed. I approached Dr Pollock privately thru a word of praise from a surgeon friend- Mr Simon Lambert who cemented my thoughts soon after my first visit. I was very anxious for the right opinion as there was no definitive grade nor a definite treatment plan, but Mr Pollock assured & explained me very patiently that this is what he has expertise for over 20 years and he would treat me as his own arm. I couldn’t be more grateful to have had surgery done by Mr Pollock and his team. Thankfully the histology of the whole tumour after surgery has come back as stage 1 which was the right diagnosis and the correct curettage surgery performed. I am now under observation under Mr Pollock & consider him as my guardian angel.

The process of diagnosing and operating my condition has been super efficient. Mr Pollock explained the pocedure very clearly ahead of the operation and I felt reassured that we were heading the right direction. Frankie was dilligent when I had questions after the operation so I got an answer quickly from Mr Pollock by email. Mr Pollock saw me a month and 3 months after the operation to monitor the bone graft, which I very much appreciated. The first meeting was a bit difficult as my thumb was swollen; but it improved subsequently and it got back to very close to where my thumb was before the operation, with a new bone inside. Thank you Mr Pollock!
