Mr Hove performed a bilateral YAG Capsulotomy to correct my eyesight which had become very blurred. The whole procedure was completely painless and over in minutes!! I now have my perfect eyesight back, everything is so clear and bright. I wouldn’t trust anyone else with my eyes, thank you so much Mr Hove

I had a bilateral phacoemulsification with trifocal lenses done by Mr Hove in April 2022. My first consultation with Mr Hove was incredible. He explains everything before you agree to treatment including a video of how the operation is done and how to cope afterwards. You will experience halos at night but this is something you get used to. On the day of the operation the staff were very helpful and friendly and explained what was going to happen. First you are given several lots of drops in both eyes which anaesthetise the eyes ready for surgery. Next into the room where Mr Hove explains all the procedure and it was finished in about half an hour. Amazing. You then have to wear plastic shields over each eye until the morning. Then you have to wear them overnight for seven days. Not a problem. You also have to put drops in your eyes four times a day for five weeks. The following day I could read well even the small print and didn’t need contact lens or glasses. Mr Hove rang me in the evening to ask how everything was and had I any questions. He is happy for you to contact him if you need any help. I went back to see him after five weeks and had the usual eye tests and then he told me everything was really good but I could contact him anytime if I had problems. He is one of the best consultants ever and also has a good sense of humour which helps you relax. I would recommend him to anyone.

Bilateral Phacoemulsification with Trifocal Lenses I write this review just over 4 months from my operation in Dec 2021. This has allowed enough time for a balanced and I hope honest review of the good and not so good. I will try to present the review in chronological order with a summary at the end. My motivation for the operation was purely vanity: I had become completely fed up with wearing glasses I was familiar with the process of the lens replacement procedure as my wife had an identical operation some 2 years before and in turn she was recommended to go to Mr Hove by a close personal friend. Similarly, my wife has recommended Mr Hove to another acquaintance who also went on to have the operation. The initial appointment was as expected, a comprehensive explanation of the process and the limitations of the procedure along with the inevitable risks associated with surgery. Everything was explained in a clear manner. More importantly, Mr Hove took great pains to outline the limitations of the process including the ‘halo’ effect of bright lights – especially at night. In addition, he carefully explained the degree to which the different focal lengths would improve in the weeks following the operation. It should be said that the operation is not one of giving you ‘bionic eyes’! There are some limitations as to what it can achieve and Mr Hove does a good job of managing expectations. You also have to watch a particularly graphic video of the operation which in itself is quite challenging if you are of a squeamish nature. But once you have decided that the operation is what you would like, the process is rapid. From the initial consultation to the operation was only a couple of weeks. The London Medical Centre and the Harley St Clinic that Mr Hove uses are, as one would expect, very good quality and there was no time wasted in NHS waiting rooms dealing with clinics that are running 2 hours late. Of course, one is paying handsomely for this privilege! The day of the operation itself is not leisurely – both before and after. You arrive at the clinic and immediately are shown into a side room where the nurse straightaway starts administering what seems like 2 gallons of drops into your eyes (of course, I exaggerate it was probably only a gallon) most of which seem to disappear round the back of my neck – hence the towel that the nurse wrapped round me at the outset. There were several types of drops administered some of which stung others not so. I understand these were to dilate my pupils and to provide local anaesthesia. After some 20 mins of upmarket waterboarding, I was taken upstairs with my, by now, very watery eyes for the procedure. Again, following some reassuring last-minute explanations from Mr Hove concerning how if the first eye did not go well then he would not do the second eye, I hopped onto the table to get the eyes ‘sorted’! He starts by shining the brightest light you can possibly imagine right into your very dilated eye. This prevents you from seeing anything whatsoever. I was pretty tense in the run up to the operation (unsurprisingly) and this just added to my disquiet. On balance though, it is better a bright light than seeing a scalpel headed toward your eye! That besides, the operation is completely painless. It is all accompanied by a commentary from Mr Hove as to what is happening. There is also the accompaniment in the background of relaxing music – well it would be if you liked rap…….it was not to my taste. In no time at all (5-7 mins?) the first eye was successfully completed and the second eye was done in a similar time. Armed with a couple of ridiculous looking eye covers that make you look like a 2-legged fly I was taken to a side room and handed a carrier bag of eye drops. It was at this point that things unravelled slightly. I was feeling pretty traumatised after this and trying to listen to Mr Hove quickly explaining about the drops left me feeling a bit overwhelmed. But I quickly found myself back down on the ground floor and phoning my wife to come back and collect me just 90 mins after dropping me off! The next 24 hours were, in parts, not particularly enjoyable. The residue from all the liquid that goes in your eyes gummed up my eyelids for a short while and so it was not until the next morning that I could unstick my eyelids and discover that I could read without glasses! As advertised, the first time I went out at night, the halo effect was pronounced and I also learnt that I could not judge distances at night as a consequence of the halo effect. The halo effect has not gone but one learns to live with it very quickly and it is not a long-term distraction. Depth perception came back quite quickly. I have noticed that my eyes can be more susceptible to the lighting glare in some supermarkets and in general, in bright sunlight, I wear sunglasses more than I ever used to. As explained by Mr Hove, the operation does not give you bionic eyes. Short distance work was instant – the day after, I was reading small text easily. Longer range was also good within a few days. The bit that takes the longest is the one metre to 3 metre range. It has taken the best part of 3 months for this to come good. I would best describe it as the distance sitting back from a computer to proof read a document through to watching TV. There were times that watching TV in HD was anything but HD! But in time your brain adjusts and it all comes good – Mr Hove was at pains to point out that you have to allow your brain time to work these things out and he was right. So, by way of summary, I was very pleased with the final outcome. It is not without its limitations but in time they do resolve (or at least in my case they have) and/or you just get used to the limitations such as the halo. The pleasure of not needing glasses far outweighs the downsides. Good: Ability to read without glasses, explanation of the process. London Medical and Harley St clinic facilities Not so good; The music during the operation and a perceived rushed post-operative process. Gummed up eyes left me feeling a bit stressed.

After a successful Rights eye Phacoemulsification with an intraocular lens procedure via NHS route I opted to have the second eye procedure carried out privately. As I felt in safe hands and as I already had my surgeon’s details from the first procedure. Mr Mfazo Hove, I contacted his practice manager Bukie at his London clinic. After the initial consultation and diagnostic tests during which time I was made aware that after the lens replacement I would experience “halos”, while driving at night. A new dimension I would have to get used to. This has not been an issue and is worth the trade off to attain 20:20 vision. Mr Hove successfully carried out Left phacoemulsification with trifocal lens. He and his team helped me feel relaxed and less anxious before and during the operation The after care and follow up consultation with Mr Hove has been second to none. Now eight weeks post opp I can say how pleased I have been with choosing Mr Hove’s clinic. I have always found him to be extremely pleasant and was very reassuring from the initial enquiry to the follow up consultation. I can only highly recommend him and his team.. Good Job

I had bilateral phacoemulsification with trifocal lenses done by Mr. Hove. Before I decided to do the procedure, Mr. Hove took me through a very detailed and graphic explanation of the procedure enabling me to take an informed decision. Although the film of the procedure shown to me made me a little scared initially, because of his enthusiasm, passion and confidence, I was able to overcome my initial fear and felt comfortable before and during the procedure. I was also very happy with the after care.
