Miss Sonja Cerovac is a Consultant Plastic Surgeon with private practice in London and Surrey. She specializes in skin reconstruction, aesthetic/cosmetic and hand & wrist surgery. The doctor is also multi-lingual, speaking English, Croatian, and Serbian, which is very helpful for patients whose primary language may not be English.
Miss Cerovac began her education with her MD from Belgrade University, which she achieved in 1992. She continued with post-graduate speciality training in plastic surgery in the UK, on the South London Specialist Registrar rotation. The doctor also completed fellowships in specialized areas such as hand and wrist surgery at Wrightington Hospital in Wigan, as well as at the Hand Clinic in Windsor. She also completed a specialist fellowship in aesthetic surgery at the East Grinstead McIndoe Centre. Finally, in 1999, she was awarded her MSc degree from the University of London, for her research on flexor tendon surgery.
The doctor is an active member of several professional organizations, including the British Association of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons, the British Society for Surgery of the Hand, and the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons. She was also inducted as a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England.
Miss Cerovac remains extremely busy working the plastic surgery department at St. George’s London University Hospital, one of the largest facilities in Europe. She handles tertiary referrals to the Hand Unit at that same hospital which often request the highest specialist expertise in management of complex hand injuries and degenerative conditions. Despite the busy schedule, she continues to be involved in teaching and training of medical students and junior doctors, national and international lectures and conferences, research, and the junior doctor selection process.
Both on the NHS and in private practice, Miss Cerovac believes in whole healthcare management, and focuses on patients as whole persons rather than simply their cosmetic or aesthetic surgery needs. For a wide range of plastic surgery procedures, Miss Cerovac is a skilled, experienced doctor who can provide patients with the results they desire.

Thanks to the skill of Miss Cerovac and the physiotherapist my treatment for Dupuytren's contracture and carpel tunnel relief have been very successful. The finger is straight and the old numbness have gone. It is now three and a half months since the operation and the scars etc. are barely visible, I'm massaging the hand 3x daily and wear the splint at night, the fingers are still stiff when I wake in the mornings but they remobilise quite quickly in hot water. As forecast by Miss Cerovac, I was back cycling 2 weeks after the op (albeit a bit tender) and driving soon after (automatic car). I had not appreciated that it would take so long for post operative symptoms to disappear but apart from that, for me it has been a great success.
“From the moment I met with Dr. Cerovac I was put at ease. She was extremely knowledgeable and was quick to identify my problem and then propose the solution. I was seen in such a timely manner which was also reassuring throughout. The procedure went well, and I was constantly reassured by the Doctor and the surgical team throughout. Brilliant patient journey from start to finish. Thank you Dr. Cerovac for taking time to resolve this problem for me and thank you for leaving such a small and tidy scar - true artistry!”
I am so grateful to Ms Cerovac, for her kindness and the excellent treatment I received from her - she really is a 'special'
Miss Cerovac was clear, concise and gave a balanced opinion. She was open to questions and provided good and full answers.
Miss Sonja Cerovac was so lovely to deal with. She explained everything so clearly and I felt she really cared about me and the outcome of my surgery. I would highly recommend her and would of course use her again if need be.
I would not hesitate to recommend Miss Cerovac. She is very professional and approachable. She is happy to spend time explaining the procedure and to answer any questions, or worries, that you might have. I am so pleased with the fantastic results after my operation.
Miss Cerovac was extremely professional and friendly and explained everything that I needed to know. The operation was a success and I would have no hesitation in recommending her to others, which in fact I have done. Her secretary was extremely professional and organised everything quickly and efficiently.
Absolutely excellent - from the moment I spoke to her PA to meeting Miss Cerovac the service I received was 1st class. Highly recommend.
Great treatment from Sonia and thrilled to have full use back of my thumb after tendon replacement surgery.
The 2 procedures (skin cancers on the face) that I had done by Sonja went very well and she was so very professional. The aftercare was excellent and all follow appointments too. I would recommend highly Sonja .
A very nice lady. Inspires confidence
I had efficient and caring treatment from everyone. Dr Cerovac inspired confidence and she did an excellent job of removing the large lump on my thumb and repairing all the skin around there. I would recommend Dr Cerovac and her team, and all the staff at Ashtead Hospital, where I have been for other surgery, and found this very impressive as well.
I was treated very promptly and with great expertise
Miss Cerovac put me immediately at ease with her warmth and professionalism. My procedure was fitted into her busy schedule for her next day list, wonderful. My confidence was restored and the whole experience was informative and pleasant. I am comforted to know that should I need treatment in the future I could contact Miss Cerovac and her team. Thank you.
Miss Cerovac was very friendly and highly professional and immediately made me feel at ease. She explained the procedure I needed very clearly and it was executed quickly and accurately. I would highly recommend her.
I have always felt in very good hands since my diagnosis 6 months ago. Miss Cerovac is easy to talk to and clearly answered all my questions, I am very lucky to have her as my consultant.
My treatment from Sonja was great on all counts.
The operations on my hands have had such a positive effect on my day to day life. I've gone from having trouble washing to cycling again. It was also incredibly neat, considering what was done.
As has been the case for many months, I continue to have the highest admiration for the care and attention I received recently from Miss Cerovac. She was extremely thorough in her examination/assessment, thus ensuring I received the most appropriate and timely treatment.
I was listed for Surgery a year after conservative management following a Martial Arts injury failed to resolve my symptoms. The symptoms that I had experienced was a feeling of instability and reduced confidence at using my wrist. These symptoms were worse when trying to complete my job as a respiratory physiotherapist, where my hand and upper limb function is key. The experience of Miss Cerovac pre operatively was great and gave a very realistic view of surgery, and potentially its inability to resolve symptoms. My expectations were related to increased stability and confidence in using my hand, with a potential loss of range as a consequence. When waking from the operation to find a keyhole approach was extended to an open procedure, Initially pain was the main symptom, but still able to move which I started straight away ( with my job in mind). First few weeks was tough, getting sleeves on and sleeping, which was uncomfortable. When I started Hand therapy, the improvements came thick and fast, and I regained my range of movement and subsequent strength over the next 4-6 months, returning to full clinical duties on 13th August as planned. The only symptom, which is minor, is occasional lack of proprioception, but this is improving. The overall result is 100 % improvement in my initial symptoms, with no reduction in range of movement and full return to work and sport. I would like to pass on my thanks to Miss Cerovac and her team for the best surgical result and complete improvement to my symptoms.
Sonja was excellent all the way through my treatment for Dupoitrens. As a pianist I was starting to be unable to play certain passages. I had been to see Sonja 4 years earlier and when I wanted to have the treatment she seemed the obvious choice. I was able to book the operation to suit my timings and she gave me all the information I needed. The procedure went very well and as planned. I was then looked after by the hand physio who dressed the hand and then removed the stitches. It was immediately obvious that Sonja's plastic surgery skills are exceptional the hand rapidly showed very little sign of the surgery. Within 3 weeks I was playing the piano again and for the first time in years able to stretch fully. The final result is superb and I would recommend Sonja without reservation.
I am 43 years old and was diagnosed with Dupyutren’s contracture around 1999. I am a piano player / musical director / programmer / arranger / orchestrator and conductor. Over the course of the next 14 years the symptoms were manageable and didn’t significantly worsen. However from around 2013 the contracture became more uncomfortable and a few years later began to seriously impact upon my ability to do my job and to carry out ordinary everyday tasks with my hands. I was referred to Miss Sonja Cerovac by my GP in early March 2017. I had reached a point where the Dupyutren’s contracture in the third finger on my right hand had bent and locked to 60-70 degrees and I was facing the end of my career as a performing pianist / musical director and conductor. I had an initial consultation in April and the surgery was conducted in early June 2017. By August after diligently following the rehabilitation program expertly provided to me by the surgery staff I was able to play the piano again and by September I was back touring the world as a professional musician. I cannot overstate the transformative nature of this surgery. On every level both professionally and personally it has changed my life. On account of the efforts and skill of Miss Cerovac alongside the support of her team I am still able to work in the job I love. Thank you.
I'd like to thank you for removing my pilar cyst. There was no pain at the time and none in the following weeks. - My family all had trouble looking for the scar because it was almost invisible!! You and your nurses made my birthday a happy one. :)
Ms Cerovac, you did a marvellous job in putting me back together. I have healed very well following the care that I received. I would like to extend my thanks to the entire ward and support staff that were both friendly and professional and succeeded at putting me at ease.
I don't normally write reviews but I'm writing to express my deep gratitude to you and your colleagues for the wonderful treatment I received during my stay. I really thought my fall meant I would no longer be able to play the piano again with my right hand, but I've been doing exercises and hand massages as advised and I'm delighted to report that my hand has greatly improved and I'm playing the piano again with great pleasure! I feel so grateful to you and your colleague for the surgical treatment. What a wonderful example of surgical technique. With renewed thanks and very best wishes.
Thank you for your openness in helping me, you kindness and your time - and for the occasional joke in the OR to calm my nerves. :) I have infinite gratitude for all of your support. I hope this small note will suffice in thanking you!! All the best and truly thank you.
