Dr Subhasis Basu is a practising Consultant Musculoskeletal Radiologist with his NHS practice based at Wrightington Hospital, Lancashire, UK (Wrightington, Wigan & Leigh NHS Foundation Trust).
Dr Basu is a proud Wiganer, born and bred in Standish, Wigan, Lancashire.
Having completed his schooling locally at Scarisbrick Hall, Ormskirk, Lancashire, Dr Basu undertook and completed his undergraduate medical degree at St. Bartholomew's & The Royal London School of Medicine & Dentistry, University of London. Following graduation, he was based in London and the South East for several years before returning to the North-West of England to complete his postgraduate Clinical Radiology training in Manchester and subsequently awarded FRCR. He returned to London to pursue a Musculoskeletal and Sports Imaging Fellowship at Chelsea & Westminster Hospital prior to taking up his current substantive Consultant role.
Dr Basu is keen on Research and Education. Whilst he regularly reviews and publishes for scientific journals and conferences, he also presents and lectures at scientific meetings, both regionally, nationally and internationally.Â
Dr Basu currently holds positions as Visiting Professor at the Manchester Metropolitan University and Senior Honorary Lecturer at the University of Salford, and takes a keen interest in teaching at postgraduate level and particularly in collaboration with allied health professionals, as Dr Basu firmly believes in a holistic, patient-centred approach in achieving good medical practice and training. He also collaborates with his Orthopaedic colleagues and supports educational courses for Orthopaedic trainee doctors preparing for FRCS (Orth).
Outside of medicine, Subhasis leads an active life with his family with a love for international travel and immersing himself in different cultures. He has a passion for sports especially in tennis, football and cricket. Any free time is rapidly taken up through his voluntary role as a tennis umpire allowing him to officiate at tennis tournaments around the world; in 2017 he successfully officiated for his 11th consecutive year at the Wimbledon Championships, AELTC.
