“Monica has changed my life and I cant recommend her highly enough. She was able to identify my challenges very quickly and equip me with the right techniques to be able to cope - I have never worked with such a skilled therapist who makes it her mission to improve your mental state in as few sessions as possible. Not only is Monica effective, but also very comforting and supportive. I felt instantly at ease with her. “

I cannot recommend Dr Monica Berntsen enough. She is exceptional. It is evident from the moment you meet her that she is extremely professional, intelligent and competent. This immediately creates a trust that is essential for this type of relationship. The more that I worked with Monica, the more I was impressed by her - and grateful to have found her. She is candid and considered. She helped me by making me realise and understand how to help myself. This is an incredibly powerful skill! My life is better thanks to Monica (long may that continue) and she has also given me tools to help myself in the future without needing her. I hope that I will not need to seek her help again (although I already miss our sessions) but I do feel very reassured (and fortunate) to know that she is there if I do need her!

I found it very easy to be honest and open to Monica, she was very non judgemental. At first I was pretty sceptical about CBT and did not think that any of the cognitive strategies would work. However over the weeks with Monica's guidance I saw how powerful they could be and the drastic change in how I perceive control over my own thoughts and emotions has really surprised me from before and after my therapy. I am happier and feel more in control of my life than I ever have and I am so grateful to Monica for helping me through my recovery.

Absolutely lovely lady, so helpful and understanding of my difficulties. She has given me a new outlook of what my life can now be. Even though a lot of our sessions ended up being remote due to the coronavirus, she was so helpful and always on the other end of the phone. Would definitely recommend.

    Anger Management Anxiety
My time with Monica was extremely helpful in understanding my emotions, more specifically, my anger and anxiety about the present and the future. As a father of a deviant teenager and a son of an ageing mother who needs care and as a lawyer who was just made redundant in a foreign country after several years of an excellent career progress, I felt overwhelmed and paralyzed. Neurofeedback combined with CBT sessions recommended by Monica was a relief I needed to regain clarity of mind and feeling of being in control of the situation. Without Monica's help I think I’d still be feeling pity about how unfair the world is and watching TV series to numb emotions. Most importantly I’ve been left with excellent tools and strategies to help me handle problems that may arise in the future. Thanks Monica!

My experience with Monica Although a recent diagnosis with hypothyroidism was addressed with medication,I was still fatigued and of low mood. Monica took the time to listen and gave me advice on what to do...So I purchased a kit.... brain stimulation therapy ..she gave me a comprehensive list of what to purchase.. Ever since then,I have not looked back.I feel less fatigued and I generally feel lifted. She has supported me every step of the way with settings, targets and contacting me interested in my progress She is professional, articulate and extremely helpful ,but above ,she really does care

    Curiosity
I came to see Monica with an open mind. There was no problem to treat per se, but I was intrigued at the thought of stimulating my brain (small electric shocks) whilst training it simultaneously (cognitive work outs on the computer) to raise the bar on many levels:-energy, mood, focus, attention, speed of thought, lucidity etc to be the best I can be and to be more efficient and productive in everything I do. From an atypical set of low initial indices (electroencephalogram data), the 3 week course had a positive impact in that cortical activity levels did increase. This manifested in many different ways:- improved / lightness of mood, improved memory, sleep, hand eye coordination, slower chewing of food :) amongst others. I plan to repeat the 3 week course before year end 2019, but this time will focus on Theta waves not Gamma as we had initially done. In doing so, I hope to fine tune further. I have also started mindfulness / meditation which is complementary to this kind of exercise. At the end of the day, we train out bodies physically and we should train our brains too to get the most out of them. The treatment also stimulates neurogenesis (birth of cells) which can only be a good thing. Recommended!

We had no idea what to expect when we first started working with Monica for my 12 year old daughter's OCD. From the very start Monica put my daughter at ease. She was anxious but has responded so well to Monica and the treatment. The Neuro Feedback has helped a great deal. My daughter is now able to manage the condition so much better than before. Monica has worked through the programs with us and also helped us with Mindfulness and Meditation. Monica has kept in contact with us and has been on hand to help throughout our experience.

I have suffered from anxiety and frequent panic attacks for several decades. No professional has been able to help me except from Monica. After 3 weeks of neurofeedback (basically playing video games with your brain) and some mindfulness training after that, I am no longer suffering panic attacks and my anxiety is remarkably gone! Thank you forever Monica for changing my life!

Dr Monica Berntsen has been extremely professional and knowledgable. She has not only taken her time to properly listen and gain an insight into issues, but she also has assessed and written an in-depth report which will now hopefully enable our son to get the support that he needs and wants. Dr Berntsen has been the only professional who has truly made a difference amongst the handful who have failed to help so far.

Dr Berntsen has an incredible understanding of brain and behaviour. This is the best practitioner I have ever gone to. She is very competent and knowledgeable. I never realised that I could learn to control my negative behaviour. The technique she taught me only made sense after I earned it so I was very pleased that I went along with it. Gaining control over my self has changed my life. I now feel that I can cope with anything and I am no longer worrying about my thoughts and emotions.

I have suffered severely with chronic depression and anxiety for the last 12 years. I also suffered with an eating disorder and post natal depression many years ago. Last December I had yet another recurring episode of depression, anxiety and suicidal thoughts. I was looking for a Psychologist and a Counsellor whom I could see on a long term regular basis that would provide me with strategies and stability. I saw Dr Bernsten for an initial consultation and really felt that she could offer me this. Since then I have had a regular weekly appointment with Dr Bernsten and have utilised many of the strategies she has taught me and we reinforce these weekly. Not only has Dr Bernsten taught me strategies through CBT and mindfulness, that I use on a daily basis, I have had regular brain stimulation, initially weekly and then daily for two weeks. Dr Bernsten has recorded my brain activity on a very regular basis and has explained to me what the changing results show each time. Dr Bernsten and I have developed a professional relationship over the last few months and week by week I have felt more stable and in control of my thoughts and actions. Since January when I began to see Dr Bernsten, this has been the longest period of time that I have been mentally well and stable for, in the last 12 years. I would highly recommend Dr Bernsten. She is extremely professional and has an excellent manner. She is very knowledgeable, reassuring and adaptable. I am looking forward to continuing my treatment programme with her and I feel very fortunate to be one of her clients.

I have suffered from depression and anxiety for a number of years. In September 2018, I had a particularly bad ‘episode’ of depression to the point of my suicidal thoughts coming back. This was bad! My employer recommended I sought a counsellor and after checking a long list of therapists, I decided to choose Dr Monica Berntsen. This was the best decision I could ever have made! Dr Berntsen suggested to see me twice a week for the first 3 weeks (so, 6 sessions). The treatment included: cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), neurofeedback, brain stimulation and mindfulness meditation. I was astounded to realise that by the 5th session I was experiencing a huge improvement. My suicidal thoughts were long gone. I felt happy. I started to find pleasure in the little things in life again like: reading a book, doing crochet, doing my art, socializing with my friends. Believe it or not, all these things meant nothing to me before – all I wanted was to stay in bed with the covers over my bed. I wanted to go to sleep and only wake up when the awful feelings had passed. Dr Monica has helped me immensely and I am eternally grateful to her. Right from the first session she inspired confidence. I remember noticing how calm she was and how intently she listened to me. It wasn’t long until I came out of our sessions feeling elated - a feeling I hadn’t experienced in a long while. I must point out that, over the years, I have seen several counsellors/psychologists to treat my depression but none has ever offered me this sort of treatment: cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), neurofeedback, brain stimulation and mindfulness meditation. I strongly believe that Dr Monica has provided me with the tools to deal with any issues that come my way in the future. My GP had increased the dose of my anti-depressant from 1 every other day to 2 pills a day. Now, 5 weeks later, I am down to 1 pill every other day again. I am hoping to come off the medication altogether very soon. I have been recommending Dr Monica to anyone I come across that is suffering from depression and anxiety. If she helped me (I considered myself a very difficult case), she can help anybody! Thank you, Monica, from the bottom of my heart. xx

Roughly 3 years ago I suffered a brain haemmorhage. Since then I made a very good recovery, but I still felt a bit defeated by my injury as well as having ongoing issues with my vision. So I decided to seek professional assistance rather than continue with the same outlook. I found Monica online by chance and I am so pleased that this happened. I had not come across some of her techniques before and so I was very excited to give it go. The brain stimulation treatment quickly produced a significant improvement in my eyesight. Over the course of 4 weeks (2 hours a week) my brain frequencies reached a much smoother balance, which has given me a much greater sense of control over my life and a renewed sense of optimism. We also included some lessons in mindfulness which taught me useful techniques I continue to use at home. Monica is a very friendly and caring person and I would recommend her treatments highly!

After looking at all my options I decided I would email Monica and see if she could help. That was 1 of the best decisions of have made in a long time. I made an appointment for an initial meeting and we discussed my issue and all the possible options I had. We agreed to twice weekly meetings for 2 weeks and if we both felt we were making progress we would have extend this for a further 3 weeks. I was initially struck by How calm and patient Monica was and she was explaining everything to me as went along. If I am entirely honest, I still don’t really understand all of the science behind what we did, I just know that it has transformed me and 2/3 months on, I am still feeling the benifits. I would not hesitate to recommend Monica to anyone that is looking for help. .

When I met Monica in early June, I was at a very low ebb. Straight off she was very calm and reassuring and after an initial consultation, proposed a course of 'stabilization' tasks and processes, together with counselling, as my 'skills set' improved. I guess, especially given my state of mind, I was hopeful but possibly a little sceptical.... However, that soon changed, scepticism giving way to optimism...... which is not my usual place at all! Within a couple of weeks, at 2 sessions a week, I was undoubtedly feeling the benefit. I was amazed at how effective I was finding the treatment and how it cut straight to the bone of my specific issues. I completed the six week course recommended and was again amazed at the progress I'd made within such a short space of time. Start of June I thought I was a lost cause..... by the end of July, I knew I wasn't..... Thank you Monica for helping me.. :o)
