Dr. Iftikhar Fazal specialises in all aspects of general cardiology including investigation and management of breathlessness, chest pain, palpitations, arrhythmias, AF, blackouts, dizziness and fainting. His major sub-specialist interests are heart failure, rhythm abnormalities, blackouts, pacemakers/ICDs.
Dr. Fazal grew up in Nottingham. He graduated from Birmingham University and worked in Birmingham, Newcastle and Nottingham prior to starting specialist training in Newcastle and Middlesbrough. He completed a period of research in remote monitoring of pacemakers and defibrillators at the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle.
Dr. Fazal undertook his sub-specialist training at Freeman hospital in advance heart failure, cardiac transplant assessment, rhythm disorders, and complex device therapy for heart failure (pacemakers, ICDs, CRRT-D). He was appointed as Consultant Cardiologist with an interest in heart failure and pacing at Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in 2014 and he is the lead for heart failure services at the Trust. His NHS practice is based at King's Mill Hospital and Newark Hospitals.
In addition to his practice, Mr. Fazal has a major interest in teaching and training and he am the lead for educational supervision in cardiology.

Whilst I had no ldea of my condition ...Mr Fazal talked me through the whole process of the insertion of the pacemaker and its urgent need...I owe him deep debt of thanks for arranging the procedure in such a quick time ...and his skill and approach during the insertion ..

CardiologyDr Fazal is an excellent consultant cardiologist and colleague with a great deal of experience in managing patients with cardiac problems. He is a specialist in heart failure and device therapy (pacemakers, biventricular pacemakers for heart failure and defibrillators) with many years of experience in providing high quality care. I have a great deal of respect for Dr Fazal and am always impressed by how highly his patients speak of him.
