Dr Chatzopoulou qualified in 1998 in Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, School of Dentistry with an outstanding student class rank and financial honours. She was awarded a performance scholarship for her MClinDent degree sponsored by the State Scholarship Institute (IKY) in Periodontics at the Royal London Hospital, which she completed with a distinction. She has been a highly trained specialist periodontist for the last 15 years with an increasing volume of international lecturing commitments and consultancy.
Following completion of her training in the department of Periodontology at the Royal London, she was offered a clinical academic lecturer position at Bart's and the London NHS Trust, developing an academic carrier and special professional activities in Periodontics and Implant Dentistry. Along with other clinical contracts with the local Health Authorities, she was engaged in the management of difficult and complex periodontal problems including Surgical Periodontal Regeneration, Mucogingival Surgery and Implants.
In addition, she teaches as a Senior Clinical Lecturer in the Department of Adult Oral Health which includes the three monospecialities of Periodontology, Prosthodontics and Endodontology. She has been one of the course organisers for the London Dental Deanery and anticipated to present three main courses related to Mucogingival Surgery, Risk Management in Periodontics and Periodontal Regenerative Therapy.
Dr Chatzopoulou works in close contact with other specialists like oral medicine specialists, endodontists, prosthodontists for the treatment and management of difficult periodontal cases. She is associated with different clinical trials which are related to prognostic factors and aggressive periodontitis and with the work of postgraduate students, whom she has been training for the last 8 years. Tissue culture, molecular biology and PCR ELISA techniques are the main research subjects the Periodontal department concentrates its research activity on.
Along with her academic career and various national and international professional activities such as audits, appraisals and job planning, her clinical time is engaged in the management and treatment of complex and advanced periodontal cases, which are essential to high quality patient care.
