Mr Monk was my consultant and surgeon in repairing a hernia and I would highly recommend David! I was unsure of what surgery type to go with (open or keyhole) and he talked me through the respective advantages and risks of the different approaches. He was very patient in answering my questions and noting my specific concerns regarding lifestyle impacts and recovery time. He kindly responded to some additional questions I had after the initial consultation while I was still making my decision. In the end I chose to go with the keyhole approach with David as my surgeon, and I'm very happy I did. On surgery day he came to see me to explain what was going to happen, was with me during the anasthetic, and came to talk with me and my partner after the operation once I was awake to make sure I was OK and had all the right info to recover afterwards. David called me the next day to check in, and in the post op consultation provided information about the next stages in the recovery process. David's calm, professional and warm manner put me at ease throughout the process. You feel he genuinely cares about your issue, treats you with dignity and respect, as well as being friendly and very human. He is also an expert in the field with attention to detail and high quality, as reflected in my successful operation and recovery progress. I was very lucky to be looked after at the Cleveland a clinic by David Monk and his team. He works with the wonderful and unique professor Mughal who carried out my small bowel resection. I spent two weeks recovering at the hospital and was visited daily, if not twice daily by Doctor Monk or a professor Mughal and each visit they asked me how I felt and listened rather than being on transmit mode (which doctors often are); explained my test results succinctly without making me too worried or concerned and clearly set out my treatment plan and any necessary changes. David has an excellent bedside manner- he is both very reassuring and easygoing and was fabulous at dealing with my mother who constantly fired off questions all the time. I never felt that he was rushing off to see the next patient, always spending time to run through everything and carry out a proper check up. I really felt I was in the best possible hands under Doctor Monks medical care and cannot recommend him and the Cleveland Clinic more highly. Having had similar surgery a year ago at the London Clinic, the CC wins hands down in every department and most importantly, the quality of care and attentiveness shown by David and the surgical team is absolutely five star and first class.

I am very happy with my surgery by Dr David Monk and the result he achieved. Excellent communication skills explaining the operation, risks, post-op process. Also Dr Monk listens carefully to questions and concerns and is happy to address them immediately.

Mr Monk went out of his way to help me with recurring gallbladder and gallstone problems. He got me a same day hospital bed after my consultation as I was in severe pain and is very kind . He came to see me several times both before and after my operations which was very reassuring. He explained in depth both before and after my procedures what needed to be done and what would be done and I felt I was in extremely safe hands.

Dr. Monk was so throrough and didn't make me feel rushed with my questions or his explanations. He is clearly a very skilled surgeon, who understands even the tiniest details of each of his procedures. He answered all of my questions with patience, concern and understanding. I came into the appointment not really sure of where it would lead but I left with not only a better understanding of my options but a good clear path forward to better my health. I would highly recommend Mr. Monk!
