Prof. Joseph Butler

Prof. Butler is an orthopaedic spine surgeon. They are a member of the AO Spine Knowledge Forum Trauma. They also sit on the Biologics & Basic Research Committee, Spinal Cord Injury Committee. In addition, they are on the Robotics & Navigation Committee of the North American Spine Society (NASS). Prof. Butler is the secretary of the Irish Spine Society. They are also the regional director of the International Society for the Advancement of Spine Surgery (ISASS).

Prof. Butler is involved in research to improve outcomes in spine surgery using robotic navigation technology. Robotic spine surgery may offer improved surgical accuracy, greater patient safety and enhanced recovery. Robotic navigation allows minimally invasive spine surgery and complex revision spine surgery to be performed safely. Prof. Butler is also interested in improving outcomes following spinal injuries and spinal surgery in older patients.
