About Mr Paul Magill
Mr Paul Magill is an experienced Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon who practices across Dublin, Newry, and Belfast. Originally from Newry, Mr Magill studied medicine at Trinity College Dublin before entering the highly competitive Irish Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgical Training Scheme. After completing specialist training and becoming a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons, he undertook 2.5 years of advanced subspecialty fellowship training in hip and knee replacement surgery.
The first 18 months of his fellowship were spent in Belfast with Professor David Beverland, a world-leading expert in hip replacement surgery. Under his mentorship, Mr Magill refined the principles of efficiency, fluency, and precise outcome measurement. He then completed a further year at North Shore Hospital in Auckland, New Zealand, gaining advanced experience in computer-assisted and computer-navigated joint replacement and revision surgery.
Since joining Craigavon Area Hospital as a Consultant in 2018, Mr Magill has combined his expertise in both planned and emergency orthopaedic surgery. As part of an eleven-consultant trauma team, he performs emergency operations for fractured bones, while his elective practice focuses on primary and revision hip and knee replacements. Alongside his colleagues, he was integral in introducing the first day-case hip replacement service in Northern Ireland.
Mr Magill is a strong advocate for improving patient outcomes through research, audit, and innovation. He holds a Master’s degree in Surgery (MCh) and has authored more than 25 peer-reviewed publications. His research into hip and knee replacement surgery has been recognised with several awards, including the prestigious McKee Prize at the British Hip Society Meeting in 2020. He also serves as a trustee of the Trauma & Orthopaedics Research Charity (TORC).

Left hip replacement. Pain management was excellent. From the procedure until now I have not experienced any pain and did not need to take any painkillers outside of those prescribed. I was very apprehensive on arrival but nurses very quickly put me at ease. I felt very well looked after and cared for post procedure. Everything was very well organised and prepared. It did what it said on the tin.
I had a total left hip replacement 7 weeks ago in the Sports clinic Dublin. I was under the care of MR Paul Magill. Everything went to plan and I had no complications.

Mr Paul Magill is an excellent surgeon. He replaced my hip in January 2026 and the care I received was second to none. It's seven months on now and I'm flying around. Mr Magill is gentleman his kindness and care was exceptional he answered any question and called into the room every night to check everything was ok but my biggest surprise to hear he called my sister himself to tell her the surgery went well that was such a big thing to do and I appreciate everything he did for me

I had appointment to see Mr Moriarity who shares rooms with on 12th May last , my appointment with Mr Mcgill was for for following week 17th May , on discovering this both his Sec. and Mr Mcgill were able to rearrange my appointment for same day , which saved me a return trip to Santry the following
Mr Magill organised my surgery just a few days after my second consolation which was carried at 8am in the sports clinic in dublin and I was discharged by 2pm
The whole event went very well great care and attention The surgery proceeded trouble free The pain management was excellent. I was off all pain medication in 2 weeks and have had no pain since then
Mr Magill explain all details of my issue in clear easy to understand language and even though the final result didn’t resolve my issue he gave clear and measured advice that helped me arrive at the final decision.
