Ms Anabela Almeida

Anabela Almeida is a Lactation Consultant and Oromyofunctional Therapist at National Tongue Tie Centre in Clonmel, Ireland with over 10 years of experience in nursing and midwifery. Anabela’s healthcare journey began as a general nurse in Lisbon, Portugal. After relocating to Ireland in 2007 and experiencing a challenging pregnancy, birth, and postnatal period with her first son, she felt compelled to dedicate her work to supporting new mothers and infants. This passion led her to complete her HDip in Midwifery at UCC in 2012.

Since then, Anabela has held roles in several maternity hospitals as a midwife and IBCLC (International Board Certified Lactation Consultant). She also provides private antenatal and postnatal support, drawing from her extensive expertise and various certifications, including Certified Infant Massage Instructor (2013), IBCLC (2016), Hypnobirthing Instructor (2019), and Myofunctional Therapist (2022).

At the clinic, Anabela specialises in offering tailored infant feeding support, encompassing both breastfeeding and bottle feeding, to families before, after, and during frenectomy procedures. Her role as an IBCLC extends to families requiring lactation support but not frenectomy. Additionally, she works with older children and adults undergoing functional frenuloplasty, providing myofunctional therapy treatment both before and after surgery.

Anabela's personal experience as a mother to four tongue-tied breastfed children, including her twin boys treated at the clinic, enriches her professional approach with empathy and firsthand understanding. Her dedication to supporting families through the delicate and important phases of infant feeding and myofunctional therapy underscores her commitment to ensuring the wellbeing and optimal care of her patients.
